The Century team recently had the pleasure of touring The Banning along with our architects at Practice (formerly GGA+). The Banning, our new permanent supportive housing community from Century Affordable Development, Inc., is now open in Wilmington. Lease-up is well underway at this #MeasureHHH and #NoPlaceLikeHome-funded development, which offers 63 new homes for unhoused individuals. Residents can enjoy amenities like a gym, community garden, and indoor and outdoor gathering spaces. If you're wondering where public funds for affordable housing could go, below is an excellent study showing an example using vacant city owned land. Check it out!
Neiman Taber has been working with House Our Neighbors to envision what social housing might look like here in Seattle. We put together a feasibility study to provide a concrete example of how funds from I-137 might be used to create housing abundance on city-owned land that is currently just sitting vacant. Our design concept would add townhouses, apartments, and co-living units on the former site of Fire Station 31. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/g3UNPAHW

Finally, a successful planning application! It took a while but we got there in the end! #landandnewhomes #landagent #landdirector #landmanager #managingdirector #ceo #land #landsource #linkedin #linkedinfamily #proactivedeveloper #landrequired #affordablehousing #registeredprovider #planning #architects #planningconsultants
Following one of our longest planning journeys, we are delighted to have just secured planning permission for our site in East Street Epsom. Comprising a mix of 34 affordable and open market apartments and a residential roof extension to the adjacent building, the proposal adopts recognisable forms, materials and an architectural language that positively contributes to the ongoing development of East Street. This stunning development will provide much needed homes within the Borough, reactivate Linton's Lane pedestrian alley and link the two neighbouring Conservation Areas. A big thank you to #studiopartington and #gradeplanning for their support during the last 24 months. #epsom #development #newhomesinepsom #planning #planningsuccess #landandnewhomes #landagents #estateagentsinsurrey #affordable #housingassociation #epsomandewell #developer

Buildings can’t speak for themselves. (Yep, you knew that already!) So it’s rare (and special) when a building can “speak” via the Architect that shaped it. I had that opportunity on a walking tour of 4 incredible housing projects in Fitzroy designed by KTA over the years, led by the inimitable kerstin thompson herself. Kerstin generously, and with refreshing honesty, shared the successes and challenges of each project. We were also lucky to hear from Associate Principal Lynn Chew about key behind-the-scenes moments. What shone through resoundingly for me is how centered *people* were in both their stories. Clients, current & future residents, builders, neighbours, and even those who had previously lived / worked in the area. A powerful reminder that all housing is, ultimately, a container for lives. Next time you find yourself on a street corner and look up to find housing - try to avoid dwelling on just the height, materials or “style”. Don’t get bogged down by the nitty-gritty. Zoom out. It’s the big picture that matters most. 🔍Think about the neighbourhood it’s in. 🔍The layers of history that corner had / has. 🔍About the lives of those who live there. 🔍If it fosters community and/or an ecosystem. Let that guide how the building “speaks” to you. 🎦 Video below of KTA’s Kerr St residences from the Walking Tour in Fitzroy on Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung Country. #lookup #mediumdensity #housing #thebigpicture #openhousemelbourne2024

Redevelopment of a housing society involves revitalizing older buildings and infrastructure to meet modern standards and requirements. This process typically includes the demolition of outdated structures and the construction of new, more efficient, and aesthetically pleasing buildings. The benefits of redevelopment include improved living conditions, enhanced safety features, better utilization of space, and the addition of modern amenities such as gyms, community halls, and green spaces. It aims to create a more sustainable, secure, and comfortable environment for residents while increasing the overall value of the property. #Redevelopment #HousingSociety #CommunityLiving #FutureReady #SustainableLiving

Design impacts emotions, emotion impacts actions, action impacts outcomes. When it comes to housing design, the unique and small details can mean the difference between a place to live and place to thrive. Efficiency is typically king when it comes to affordable housing. At The Gateway Collective, a first priority is socially connectedness. Design focused on fostering a sense of community What are we looking at in this picture? - 16 foot wide corridors - 18 foot tall ceilings - 6 foot tall double windows in each unit - skylights being installed next week throught the corridors and units Instead of a hallway, it becomes a neighborhood. The Missing Middle... It’s clear that there is a pressing need for more housing options to accommodate our increasingly diverse population. We must introduce changes to R2 and R3 zones to foster vibrant communities that offer better access to transportation, open spaces, and retail. Emphasising good placemaking and prioritising housing near public transport are crucial steps. This is an issue that affects regions and cities across NSW. Let’s work together to create richer, more inclusive communities through diverse housing options... Modern townhome developments in Waller, Texas, are setting a new standard by integrating green spaces and community features into their designs. This approach not only enhances the aesthetic and value of the living environment but also contributes to the well-being of residents by promoting outdoor activities and social interaction. These developments reflect a growing trend towards creating more sustainable and livable urban environments, where green spaces play a crucial role in community health and happiness. Incorporating elements such as parks, communal gardens, and recreational areas not only makes Waller's townhome communities more attractive but also aligns with broader goals of enhancing urban life and environmental stewardship. As Waller continues to grow, these features will be key in attracting residents who value quality of life and a sense of community. #tx #houston #htx #houstontexas #waller #newconstruction #realestate #realestatemarket #investmentproperty #newbuild
