We’re proud to have had the privilege of designing the Crossroads Building at Langley School—a space that not only serves as a functional academic building but also acts as a central hub for the entire school community. Opened in September 2022, this 40,000 sq ft space is the culmination of CGS' comprehensive campus master plan and a key element in realizing the school’s vision for innovative learning and community engagement. The Crossroads Building was designed to foster curiosity, collaboration, and creativity. It features adaptable classrooms, a state-of-the-art library, an innovation lab, and multipurpose spaces—all contributing to a dynamic learning environment. More than just an academic space, the building has become a beacon for connection and community, hosting events that bring students, teachers, and families together. This is a place where movement, exploration, and student expression are celebrated, and where leadership development, particularly in the fifth grade, is a focal point. The building’s design also supports Langley’s commitment to environmental sustainability and enhances the overall flow and openness of the campus. As the Crossroads Building continues to serve as a hub for Langley’s students and faculty, we look forward to seeing how this space evolves to meet the needs of future generations. Two weeks ago, Derek Banocy, AIA, retired Principal, Chris Graee and the GCS-SIGAL team joined forces to lead a breakout session for Brailsford & Dunlavey, Inc., diving into the transformation of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. We shared the insights, challenges, and successes from this landmark modernization project, reflecting on how we turned a historic space into a state-of-the-art arts education hub. Big thanks to Brailsford & Dunlavey for hosting us and to the GCS-Sigal team for presenting alongside us! 

🚧 Early-stage construction is moving along at Malcolm X ES in #Ward8! We’re working hard to deliver this school modernization with Net Zero for our District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) partners. This modernization will be roughly 63,000 square feet, comprising a combination of renovation of the existing building and new construction. 🙌 We could not do this work without our amazing Capital Construction Services Division, Project Managers Derek Riley and Rowan Alkaysi, design-build team GCS-Sigal and CGS Architects, and our client agency DC Public Schools and all involved! Last Friday, CGS Architects' Bill Spack, AIA, Rodney Howlett and retired Principal, Tom Wheeler, AIA attended Prince George's County Public Schools' Topping Out Ceremony for Suitland High School Phase 1, bringing together donors, elected officials, and design team to celebrate this big milestone. The Topping Out tradition marks the moment the highest structural beam is set in place, symbolizing the completion of the building’s main framework. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in this project!

We are thrilled to announce that our John Eaton Elementary School Renovation was awarded the citation for AIA DC Chapter's Design for Wellbeing, Integration, and Discovery! 🎉 This achievement reflects our commitment to creating spaces that foster learning, collaboration, and growth. A huge thank you to our dedicated team and partners, including GCS-SIGAL and Grunley Construction Company, Inc. for bringing this vision to life. Together, we’re shaping environments that inspire future generations!

Congratulations to our build partners, Coakley & Williams Construction (CWC) and the Landon School project team, for winning the Excellence in Construction award from the Associated Builders and Contractors of Metro Washington! Cheers to exceptional collaboration!

We are delighted to share the completion of several innovative projects that showcase our commitment to design excellence and functionality. Flashback Friday to Academy of the Holy Cross' Groundbreaking. Last Friday, CGS Principals, Bill Spack and Don Gregory, attended the much anticipated Ground Blessing Ceremony for the new Athletic and Wellness Center followed by Mass led by Washington Archbishop, Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory. We are thrilled to see this project come to fruition and know it wouldn't be possible without our hardworking team and building partners. Flashback to two Fridays ago, Bill Spack, this time joined by project architect Aina Santesmasses, attended Columbia Country Club's grand opening. This achievement marks a revisioning of their main level locker rooms, dining rooms and kitchen.
