Does your LinkedIn profile read like a static resume? It shouldn't. The beauty of LinkedIn is that your profile evolves as you do. I've seen too many people put in their experience, the education, maybe a photo, and call it done. But it's not done! It's not just a digital resume; it's your professional brand, your story, and your ticket to lucrative opportunities and new professional connections. In fact, when you apply for a job, once you're under serious consideration, the first thing a hiring manager does is look you up here. Exciting career news? Share it to the network.  Published an article or spoke at an event? Feature it. A thought leader is looking for participation on a post? Comment with a great conversation starter.  You read an inspirational, career-focused book lately? Post about it. Talk about why. You get the idea. Does your LinkedIn profile reflect the executive role you're aspiring to? If you hesitated for even a second, we need to talk. I've dedicated the past 15 years to helping executives create profiles that stand out in the digital landscape. That's why I've created a free, on-demand masterclass: "How to Create Your LinkedIn Profile to Generate Job Interviews Faster." In this free training, you'll discover: • Insider tricks to skyrocket your profile visibility • The art of crafting a compelling leadership narrative • Proven strategies for networking to find those coveted 6 and 7-figure roles • Engagement techniques that make you a LinkedIn powerhouse • The secret sauce for optimizing your profile's searchability The best part? This high-impact training is available all week, 24 hours a day. No excuses, no scheduling conflicts – just pure, actionable insights at your fingertips. In today's job market, LinkedIn isn't just a nice-to-have – it's a must-have. So let's roll up our sleeves and transform your profile into a powerful tool that opens doors to your next executive adventure. Are you ready to take your LinkedIn game to the next level? Your future self will thank you.

  • Hey there! Today, we're diving into seven LinkedIn profile mistakes that could be hurting your job search—mistakes I see all the time as a LinkedIn Premium Career Group moderator, where I help over 1.6 million job seekers daily. So, let's jump right into the most common errors and how you can fix them. 1. No Current Position Listed Even if you're not working right now, leaving that section blank can harm your profile ranking. If you’re between jobs, list what you’re doing—whether it’s freelance work, volunteering, or certifications. Keeping this part filled shows you're still active in your field, and it helps boost your profile's visibility. 2. No Profile Photo or a Bad One Not having a photo is worse than having a bad one! A professional headshot makes you 11% more likely to be viewed. Avoid full-body shots, distracting backgrounds, or anything unprofessional. You want your photo to reflect your best self. 3. Not Keyword Optimizing Your Profile Your headline, job titles, and summary need to include relevant keywords to boost your visibility in search results. But don’t just stuff them in—use keywords naturally to describe your expertise. Optimize these sections, and recruiters will find you faster. 4. Dull Summaries You’ve got 2,000 characters in your summary—use them! Highlight achievements, associations, and how you contribute to your industry. Let your personality shine while keeping it professional. 5. Listing Tasks Instead of Achievements Don’t just tell people what you did—show them how well you did it. Use a simple formula like Challenge, Action, Result (CAR) to turn your job descriptions into accomplishment-driven statements. 6. Ignoring Recommendations and Endorsements Recommendations from superiors or clients carry the most weight. Try to avoid those "I’ll recommend you if you recommend me" deals—they don’t hold as much value. And while endorsements matter too, quality beats quantity, so aim for meaningful endorsements in key areas. 7. Expecting Your Profile to Do All the Work A LinkedIn profile isn’t a "set it and forget it" tool. Think of it like a business card—it’s only effective if you’re out there networking, engaging, and making connections. Don’t sit back and wait for the offers to roll in—be active! Want more tips? If you're looking to create a LinkedIn profile that lands six-figure job interviews, I've got a free training coming up where I’ll cover not just how to fix these mistakes, but also three key LinkedIn activities that can get your profile noticed. My latest trip to Ithaca for Cornell’s Trustee & Council Annual Meeting conference inspired me to reach out to many people I knew and would soon know to meet them on campus. This is one way to use LinkedIn to expand your network. In this video, I cover three ways to expand your network and how to execute it. Building your network before you need it is important. Why? —when you are connected to more of the right people, you show up in more of the right searches —common connections bolster your first impression when someone looks at your profile —and you simply have more people who can help you when you do it before you need it. So build it now. Use these three tactics in the video and get my Generate Leads Using LinkedIn ebook at GetLinkedBook.com. LinkedIn is a good mine of opportunity—but only if you take the time to mine it. And you can do it in 5-10 minutes a few times a week … listen to the video for how!

  • 4 Executive Resume Mistakes You Should Avoid So... your resume is still leaning on years of experience or just listing job duties? It’s time for an update. Here are 4 mistakes I often see and how you can fix them: ➡ Relying Too Much on Experience: Just because you’ve been in the game for 20+ years doesn’t mean you’re automatically qualified. Highlight your key achievements instead! ➡ Focusing on Responsibilities Instead of Results: Listing what you did isn’t enough. Show how your work made a real impact with measurable results. ➡ Not Showcasing Leadership: Instead of just stating your team size, talk about how you developed your team, nurtured talent, and created an inclusive culture. ➡ Not Highlighting Adaptability: In today’s fast-changing business world, show how you’ve navigated challenges or led successful changes to prove you can adapt. Curious to see examples of how to do this? register for my next “How To Design an Executive Resume & a Fail-Safe Job Search Strategy” Training session on Tuesday 10/22 at 12noonET. You’ll learn how to craft a standout executive resume! #ExecutiveResume #Leadership #CareerGrowth #ResumeTips #JobSearch #ExecutiveBranding

  • Today, I want to address a topic that resonates deeply with many of us over 50—ageism in the job market. Yes, ageism is a real challenge, but it's crucial not to let it become an excuse that holds us back from achieving great things. Ageism Exists, But So Does Opportunity It's an undeniable fact: ageism is out there. However, the question remains—do we let it define us and our career trajectories? Absolutely not! At 54, I stand with you in facing these challenges head-on, not just by acknowledging them but by actively overcoming them. In our pursuit of career success, staying updated with the latest job search strategies is vital. Korn Ferry, a leading executive search firm, highlights a significant shift in the 2024 job market trends: organizations are increasingly valuing skills and practical knowledge over traditional qualifications2]. This shift presents a unique opportunity for us, seasoned professionals, to highlight our rich experience and diverse skill sets, making age just a number. The reality is that the corporate world is evolving rapidly, and so should we. Whether it's upgrading our skills to master new technologies like Slack or adapting to contemporary communication methods, staying relevant is key. It's not about the tools we used in the past, like fax machines, but how we equip ourselves for today's demands. Remember, those who fixate on age are not the people we want to work with or for. Our focus should be on finding organizations that value and seek the ageless skills and wisdom we bring to the table. These are our people—the ones who recognize the unparalleled value of experienced professionals. Don't let ageism be a barrier. Instead, let it be a catalyst for growth and reinvention. I encourage you to join my free, on-demand resume and job search training designed for VP and C-level executives and senior-level leaders. This training will not only help you craft a compelling brand on your resume but also guide you on focusing your job search efforts effectively and handling ageism with confidence. Key Training Highlights: Branding yourself effectively on your resume. Understanding the real goal of a resume. Navigating ageism with over 25 years of experience. Leveraging modern job search tools, including AI and online platforms. Join me on Tuesday, October 22nd at 12noonET and register at https://lnkd.in/gCWR-xNk Start your journey towards landing your next amazing role, irrespective of age. Together, we can sidestep the ageism hurdle and shine brighter than ever.

  •  5 deadliest words in your job search. What are the five deadliest words in a senior-level job search? I’ll give you a hint… They’re often the first thing the reader sees when they open the cover letter email or document. And if the first thing the reader sees is the five deadly words, your chances of landing an interview are likely already doomed.  So, what are the words? To. Whom. It. May. Concern. Please don’t do this. Ever.  Now this may sound like dated advice in this age of sending emails… But sending a cover letter to info@ and support@emails with “To Whom It May Concern” is like jumping into a black hole.  You never know where it goes and often hear nothing after …. Address your cover letter to a person — an actual person.  Not “To Whom It May Concern.” Not “Hiring Manager.” Not the name of the company, e.g. “Dear Company X.” And if you have an email, don’t address it in the ways above either.  Do the homework and find out the name of the person who will receive your submission. It might take some research, but it’s worth it. Naturally, the company’s LinkedIn page is a great place to start your search. If you’re unsure which person at the company to choose, reach out politely to some employees and ask. Some may reply in the spirit of being helpful… You can also search the company’s website. Their ‘who we are’/management pages might provide the answer. If they have media/press pages, check there too. If all else fails, pick up your phone and call the company. (I know that sounds crazy nowadays…but old school works when new school doesn’t.)  This shows the reader that the cover letter was written specifically for that role. It also proves that you took the initiative to learn about the company. And, this may sound crazy, but after all your research efforts, if you still get the name of the person you address your email to wrong, I think it’s better to get the wrong person … but still list a person … Want more executive cover letter tips? • "Are you aiming to secure a job or win a resume beauty contest?” This was my reply to an executive job seeker who recently described my resume templates as 'boring.' The root behind my answer as to why my resume templates are “boring” is this:   they are meant to be. According to experts, my own recruiting experience, and my continuing education in hiring practices, straightforward resumes are more effective for executives. Recruiters sift through numerous resumes daily, and those that clearly and QUICKLY highlight relevant achievements stand out among the volumes of resumes received. Simple layouts help recruiters quickly assess qualifications faster, making them more effective than visually complex designs. Our Six Figure Resume Bundle focuses on crafting achievement-oriented content and LANGUAGE that resonates with hiring managers. Because in the end, words matter more than layout… Need proof? A pretty resume with poor wording won’t go far… But an unsexy looking resume with strong word choice gets interviews. Do you agree? This is what we see over and over.
