Do you work in a home office? Or are you back to working at your company building? I've always worked from a home office. Before we added a separate room onto our house specifically as my workspace, I worked in the corner of my living room using a couple of half bookshelves and a half wall as dividers between me and the central part of the family room. I live in an 1860's farmhouse... there are half walls and weird spaces everywhere...remind me to tell you about my hidden pantry someday! Anyway, around the same time we bought this house, I heard about 𝗙𝗲𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗵𝘂𝗶, the placement and spatial arrangement of things in our home that is supposed to bring in favorable energy and calm. Back when we bought this crazy house, we needed all of the favorable energy and calm we could get. I ended up following some of the principles and started to hate my house less. Here are the five basic principles of Feng Shui: 1) 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗴 -light and dark, closed spaces and open spaces, etc. 2) 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 are necessary for energy to flow. Be mindful of where you place your furniture, and avoid blocking doorways or hallways. 3) 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 face a door, but not right in front of it, put your desk slightly diagonal from the door or living room so you have full visibility 4) 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀. Make sure you have earth, metal, water, fire, and wood in your office and home. Each means something: Wood means expanding and growing (expand your career), Earth is more grounding, etc. 5) 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗽 (this is what I used in my house). This shows a floor plan of where certain areas in your home indicate wealth, health, knowledge, children, etc. When I started redoing my office last month, I reached out to 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗮 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗼, Certified Founder of Feng Shui Manhattan, Inc., Feng Shui Long Island, Inc. and daughter of the renowned Certified Feng Shui Master Carole Provenzale. Laura offers easy, simple changes you can make to a home or company office that will make your work life more calm, enjoyable, and profitable. Have a listen to this fascinating discussion as Laura offers an intro about Feng Shui, and placement tips for your office and home. I don't know about you, but I always end up working an hour or two on the weekend. I'm not interrupted by email, phones, texts so I can get stuff done. If you want to leave your job but are swamped at work, weekends are a great time to job search. Put a timer on so you don't work too long...set aside just enough time to put a dent in your search. You'll thank yourself later. //// 🍂 My name is Erin, and I'm an executive resume writer, LinkedIn profile writer, and career coach. --> 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴? Last week, a client said to me, "I'm done. Really done. I put off leaving five years ago and here I am in the same place five years later. I need to make a change." There are many reasons someone makes a career change: ☑ re-entering the workforce after an official retirement ☑ job interests have changed over time ☑ industry changes have forced a need to look in a new direction ☑ family demands require a change ☑ boss or culture is toxic But how do you develop a plan for the change? ✦ Determine Your Passions - What excited you 20 years ago about the business may not be the same now. Evaluate your interests today as you look at the industry or new emerging markets. What appeals to you? What would you like to see yourself doing 5-10 years from now at your job? ✦ Compile a List of Your Transferable Skills - These are both hard and soft skills you have that work in your "new" position. ✦ Fill in the Gaps - Do you need to upskill to add missing pieces? Do you need additional certifications or qualifications? Do your research and be prepared to take classes if necessary to fill any gaps in your background. ✦ Count the Cost - Don't make the jump without looking at your finances. It is stressful to make a career change, and even more so if you haven't prepared financially. Review your budget and save money in advance of the change in case you need to pay for classes or to cover incidentals. ✦ Talk with Experts - Reach out to someone doing the job you want, asking for an informational interview. Contact a professional organization connected with the industry and ask for advice. The more information you have, the less stressful the transition. What else? //// 🍂 My name is Erin, and I'm an executive resume writer, LinkedIn profile writer, and career coach. --> 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴? Raise your hand if the thought of being on video makes you cringe. 👋😳 For YEARS, I avoided video for many reasons: 1) 𝗜 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻'𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸/𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗽𝗶𝗱, like I didn't know what I was talking about. After all, what you put "out there" is there forever. FOR-EV-ER.... 2) 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗜 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻. Is my hair OK? Is the color I'm wearing OK for the video? Are my under-eye circles really that dark? 3) 𝗠𝘆 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗻𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲. Do I have to spend thousands on fancy cameras, speakers, microphones, etc? I reached out to the fabulous Tanya Smith, owner of "Get Noticed with Video," who specializes in helping coaches, business owners, and job seekers create video content for businesses and interviews. I threw all of my fears and questions at Tanya, who made me realize that no one is looking for flaws; they are simply looking to hear what you have to say. If you are nervous about video content, listen to or watch the podcast. ** BONUS: She tells you which tech you can use to get started with very little investment! When I look at the plans I had that didn't go how I thought I wanted them to go I am very grateful for the different paths I took that led me here. 💗 Just because you aren't doing what you THOUGHT you'd be doing doesn't mean you went down the wrong path. It means that you might be meant for something different. But you don’t have a plan, and you’ve felt broke for so long that it’s hard to know where to begin. How can you deepen your relationships on LinkedIn in just ten minutes? Last week, an executive client of ours said to me, "Yeah, I really don't use LinkedIn for anything more than to accept connection requests from colleagues. I don't have hours to network to try and build relationships. How far will that get me anyway?" I get it. But.... Networking and cultivating your relationships on LinkedIn doesn't have to be time-consuming. Spending 10-15 minutes per day, or every other day, will not only grow your network but will also help your profile be more searchable to recruiters and hiring managers. The more you use LI, the more it works for you. 𝙄𝙣 𝙩𝙚𝙣 𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙪𝙩𝙚𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙘𝙖𝙣: ★ 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 on a post. Not just, "Thanks", but something meaningful that adds to the topic. Engage! ★ 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 (repost) someone's post to your page. This gives credit to the author AND increases your chances of engagement. ★ 𝗘𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲 someone. This not only makes their day, but they may return the favor. ★ 𝗔𝗱𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Once you hit the 500 mark, your profile will rank higher in search results. Thoughts? //// My name is Erin and I'm an executive resume writer, LinkedIn profile writer, and career coach. --> 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴? • Have you ever wanted to walk off your job?

View profile for Erin Kennedy, graphic

Executive Resume Writer | LinkedIn Profiles | Outplacement Services | Coaching | LI Top Voice for Resumes & Job Search Strategies | Forbes & Jobscan Top Followed | Career Storyteller | Home of OFFICE LATTE PODCAST! ☕

A client of ours was ready to quit his job. He'd encountered new leadership and new board members he didn't agree with, and changing the company mission left him unsettled and ready to move on. In fact, when I talked to him, he was so ready to leave that he had a grand idea of telling the executive team how their new mission was wrong and the new leadership sucked. WRONG. You don't want to leave a job this way. Even if you have a new role lined up, bite your tongue. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 "𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝘁" 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗷𝗼𝗯 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱/𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲. Instead, take the high road and follow these steps: ➡️ 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝘀. Give them two weeks' notice. It's the standard practice and the right thing to do. And, if you're like me, you might get lucky, hand them your notice, and they'll walk you out ten minutes later (yes, it happens, especially in toxic work environments). ➡️ 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲. Offer to help transition a new person in. Aid in the onboarding process and train them when needed. ➡️ 𝗔𝗰𝘁 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹. Even if the position wasn't ideal, take the time to thank your colleagues and management in person. Leaving on good terms is good for you--and your health! Knowing you left gracefully makes it less stressful. Have you ever left a job in a big, dramatic way? Did you regret it? //// 🌻 My name is Erin, and I'm an executive resume writer, LinkedIn profile writer, and career coach. --> 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴?
