🌍 The #climatecrisis affects everyone, but its impact on women and girls is particularly severe. At the recent UN climate conference (SB 60) in Bonn, gender inequality was overshadowed by a range of pressing issues, despite its critical importance. It’s alarming that #climatechange could push an additional 158 million women and girls into poverty, underscoring the need for their voices in these discussions. 📣 Young women, as future leaders, should have the opportunity to share their experiences and propose solutions. Ensuring #genderequality is prioritized at #COP29 and beyond is vital, not just for fairness, but for an effective response to the climate crisis. #EnvironmentalJustice #EJFriday

📊 A recent poll reveals that over a third of Gen Z is concerned they might have to leave their hometowns due to #climatechange, particularly water-related issues. This survey, conducted by Gallup and the Walton Family Foundation, shows strong bipartisan support among young people for holding politicians accountable for addressing these challenges. 🌎 Many Gen Zers have grown up witnessing significant #environmental crises, like the Gulf oil spill and the Flint water crisis, which have shaped their fears about the future. With 88% of voting-age Gen Z believing politicians must tackle water issues, there's a clear demand for political action on climate matters. 🗳️ As this generation becomes increasingly influential in elections, their unified stance could lead to significant changes in how politicians approach #climatechange.

Was great to participate in such a fun and interesting event!
🌎 During the final session of our "From Fields to Policy” series, focused on the Farm Bill and food justice, experts explored how the bill impacts our daily lives and the interconnected issues of #foodsecurity and #environmentaljustice. #ClimateWeekNYC 𝗪𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐕𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐨 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eDWdguxn 𝐋𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/ebnU3i2K 💡Omanjana Goswami, Ph.D, Interdisciplinary Scientist for Union of Concerned Scientists, kicked things off by breaking down the massive scope of the Farm Bill, over $1 trillion! She reminded us how crucial this legislation is for ensuring that everyone has access to nutritious food, especially those from marginalized communities. Omanjana made a strong case for rethinking how we distribute resources within #agricultural policies to make sure that help reaches those who need it most. 💡Geoff Horsfield, Policy Director at Environmental Working Group, raised some eye-opening points about the unfairness in the way farm subsidies are currently handed out. He shared that a tiny percentage of wealthy #farmers are snagging a big chunk of those benefits, leaving many smaller, struggling farmers in the dust. Geoff called for a major shift toward fairer agricultural practices that support farmers of all sizes, not just the big players. 💡Vanessa García Polanco, MS, Co-Director for the National Young Farmers Coalition & Organizational Council Member for the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, chimed in with a video message that got everyone excited about the future of farming. She stressed the importance of empowering young farmers to shape policy that aligns with #sustainable, equitable practices. Vanessa’s enthusiasm highlighted the fresh ideas and energy that the next generation brings to tackling urgent issues like #climatechange. 💡𝐑𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐬𝐨𝐧, Director of The Nehemiah Center, shared her heartfelt experiences working in a #fooddesert community in Montgomery, Alabama. She discussed how recent changes to #SNAP benefits have significantly affected local families, highlighting the deep-rooted issues around #foodaccess. Rhonda’s insights served as a powerful reminder of how historical injustices continue to impact communities today. 💚 Together, these speakers painted a picture of how the #FarmBill affects all of us, especially those in underserved communities. The event inspired attendees to stay engaged, informed, and active in advocating for a fairer, more just food system that works for everyone. #ActOnClimate

It was so amazing to bridge the work I am doing with International Transformation Foundation Inc. (US) and Change the Chamber. Both organizations are near and dear to me and have become a work home. Thank you to everyone that has made this work possible and I can't wait to see what else we can accomplish together!
💧Kenya is grappling with a serious water crisis worsened by #climatechange and environmental conflicts. However, organizations like the International Transformation Foundation, where Change the Chamber National Climate Fellow Erika Pietrzak is actively involved, are making a significant impact by building water kiosks and empowering local communities. 🌍 These initiatives provide #sustainable access to clean water and engage youth globally, inspiring them to contribute. Collaborations with groups like Join The Pipe and Water is Life Kenya further enhance these efforts, focusing on community support to uplift marginalized areas.
