🚍✨ A New Era of Sustainable Transit in Salem! ✨🚍 This month the Salem Area Mass Transit District celebrates the addition of our first-ever battery electric buses! These state-of-the-art, zero-emission buses are now part of our fleet and ready to serve Route 11 – Salem’s first Zero Emissions Corridor. This investment along the 12-mile corridor, stretching from Keizer Transit Center to the southeast corner of Salem, emphasizes a strong commitment to the greater Salem-Keizer community and the environment. The decision to electrify Route 11 was based on ridership, logistics for on-route charging at Keizer Transit Center, and the district’s focus on mitigating historical inequities within our community. A special thank you to U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley for his ongoing support for sustainable initiatives. He has been instrumental in making this vision a reality. This electric corridor is more than just a route—it's a commitment to a greener, healthier future. With these new battery electric buses, we're reducing emissions and noise pollution, while providing our riders with a smoother, quieter ride. We’re proud to lead the way in sustainable transit, and this is just the beginning. Together, we're driving toward a cleaner, more sustainable community.
