Our work on decarbonisation in the Port of Detroit has taken an exciting new turn! The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recently allocated $24 million in funding as part of the Clean Ports Program! The Port of Detroit is set to undergo transformative climate-friendly upgrades, becoming a benchmark for sustainable port operations. This funding breaks down into $3 million for in-depth planning and $21 million for implementation—each step backed by Tunley Environmental’s strategic net zero planning as led by Sustainability Scientists Dr Robert Moorcroft and Emily Alexander working closely with the Executive Director of the Port Authority, Mark Schrupp. Here’s what’s coming: ◾Electrification of Port Equipment: Shifting from diesel to electric to cut down on emissions. ◾Energy-Efficient Infrastructure: Improved storage, distribution and reduced energy demands for more climate-friendly operation. ◾Air Quality & Carbon Reduction Measures: Direct benefits for both the environment and surrounding communities, lowering emissions and improving air quality. We’re thrilled to have contributed to this significant milestone and to see the Port of Detroit on its way to net zero. A massive thank you to the Detroit Wayne County Port Authority for their support and collaborative efforts.
