  • This Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Children’s employees and their families honored Dr. King’s legacy by participating in our annual #MLKDayofService, 'A Day On, Not a Day Off.' From building benches and painting murals at the Hardland Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta to assembling snack bags for Hope Atlanta, our volunteers came together to create positive change in the community—one of the many things Dr. King was passionate about. #MLKDay

  • Every parent knows the worry of a child losing their favorite stuffed animal. When a patient at our Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center lost his beloved stuffed octopus, Children’s nurse Bella jumped into action. She searched high and low through our halls and even enlisted our Environmental Services team for help. After an unsuccessful search, she decided to take matters into her own hands. She broke out her crochet needles and five hours of crocheting later, Bella had made a brand-new octopus. The next day, she hand delivered this special surprise to her patient’s room. It was all smiles and that's the real medicine, isn't it?

When he entered his teenage years, Anthony started to become self-conscious about his limited ability in his left hand. That's when his family was referred to our Comprehensive Limb Difference Program. Our dedicated teams were able to equip him with a custom-fit prosthesis that was geared to improving his fine motor skills, and in turn, boosting his confidence. With his new prosthesis, Anthony has his eyes set on achieving his next goal: becoming an electrician.

  • It came as a shock for Mandie and her husband when they found out their 10-year-old son Max was diagnosed with a disorder that only 1 in 58 million children have worldwide. But when Max’s little brother Chance was diagnosed with the exact same disorder, their world was turned upside down. Both of the boys were diagnosed with ROHAAD (Rapid-onset Obesity with Hypothalamic dysfunction, Hypoventilation, and Autonomic Dysregulation) and were referred to Dr. Ajay Kasi, a pediatric pulmonologist at Children's, who helped develop a comprehensive treatment plan for the boys who are now responding well. • Just hours after running his best cross country race, Cayden’s life took a sudden turn. A stroke caused by a ruptured arteriovenous malformation left him completely paralyzed on his left side, and he spent a month in a nearby ICU fighting for his life. When it came time for rehab, his family transferred him to Children’s. He worked with Dr. Leung, a physiatrist at Children’s, and our CIRU and Day Rehab teams to regain his strength. In just one month, he went from not being able to walk to running on a treadmill. Inspired by his strength and determination, his cross country team has dedicated every race since his incident to Cayden.
