  • Get to know RN Clinical Supervisor Jessica Coslow from CHKD's Urology practice in her Q&A below! #CHKD #TeamCHKD #Urology #Pediatrics #RN #ClinicalSupervisor #UrologyAwarenessMonth 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐇𝐊𝐃, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧 𝐮𝐬? I started with CHKD in May 2021 but have been with urology since December 2023. After moving to Virginia from the Pacific Northwest, where I worked with children, the choice to join CHKD was a simple one—work with the people you love to care for. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦? I have experience in multiple areas of healthcare, which gives me a unique perspective when providing care. I’m patient-focused and understand the importance of delivering quality care. I am genuinely enthusiastic and excited about the opportunity to work with children, and I feel that shows in my attitude and demeanor at work. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭’𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐇𝐊𝐃? I take great pride in being a go-to part of a patient care team, someone who brings comfort to a concerned family by simply being there. Recently, I had a family call into the clinic, and as soon as I answered the phone, the grandmother on the other end of the line said, “Oh, Jessica, I’m so glad it’s you.” It’s rewarding to know you’ve created a trusting relationship with the patient and their family. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡, 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮? CHKD's mission is a reminder to focus on the entire patient experience. By focusing on all three components—health, healing, and hope—the patient is recognized as more than just a sick child. They are someone we foster health for through programs that encourage healthy behaviors and lifestyles and the provision of general, specialty, surgical, and research-driven care. They are someone we work to heal with quality, compassionate care. And they are someone we provide hope for a healthy future. 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬, 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐕 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝? I am more of an outdoorsy person in the spring and summer months, so I’m a bit behind on current books, movies, and TV. In general, I enjoy crime drama, and I’ve been working my way through the Women’s Murder Club series by James Patterson for many years. I am looking forward to taking time to see movies like Fly Me to the Moon, It Ends With Us, and Twisters as the outdoor activities start to wind down, though!

  • Our Pediatric Surgery Team had an incredible time at the 62nd Annual East Coast Surfing Championship! 🌊 Over four days, we connected with attendees from all over the country, sharing important work at CHKD and raising awareness about the Nuss Center’s chest wall repair program. The team distributed cooling towels, chip clips, pens, and lip balm while also highlighting our pediatric spine program. One memorable conversation was with a mom whose son was discharged from Army boot camp due to a diagnosis of Pectus Excavatum. Upon discovering that there are treatment options, she began to cry, wishing she had known about the Nuss Center sooner. It was inspiring to meet so many families whose children have been treated at CHKD. We spoke to countless people who could benefit from an evaluation by our Nuss Center team. With over 100,000 visitors at the event, we were grateful for the opportunity to educate the public and connect with our patient families. We’re already looking forward to next year and can’t wait to continue spreading the word about the care we provide! 💙 #CHKD #PediatricSurgery #NussCenter

  • Every year, CHKD cares for more than 500 children diagnosed with cancer. To honor our patients and families who triumphed in their patient care journey, we celebrate Survivor Day, a longstanding #CHKD tradition. This year, more than 200 inspiring patient families joined us at the Military Aviation Museum, where they shared stories, ate BBQ, and watched a flight demonstration of military planes. We are honored to celebrate and recognize these children and their families, who overcame childhood cancer with remarkable strength. Explore opportunities to make a lasting impact on children and families enduring a cancer diagnosis by visiting https://lnkd.in/eRhtXWm3#Pediatrics #ChildhoodCancerAwareness #EndChildhoodCancer #PediatricCancerResearch
