Cincinnati Children's is leading by example. This is what welcoming and creating a sense of belonging looks like in the workplace. Employees want to feel seen, included, and know that they belong. These type of events are why people stay and are what attracts people to employers in our region. As an organization that works to welcome and support immigrant, refugee, and international talent, we at Cincinnati Compass think it is wonderful to see employers create welcoming work environments and celebrate the diverse talent that drives growth and innovation of their businesses. #belonging #immigrantswelcome #inclusiveeconomies #internationaltalent #inclusiveworkplace
In addition to the many events that celebrate our diverse workforce, we recently designated May 1 as our International Employees Day. It was wonderful to see hundreds of colleagues who were born in other countries at our inaugural celebration. Cincinnati Children’s is the place where extraordinary talent from every corner of the world can reach their full potential. We are proud to celebrate our 1,500-plus colleagues who represent 128 countries! Thanks to Steve Davis, MD MMM MS for championing the effort to create an environment where everyone feels welcome, safe, valued and respected. Thank you Visael "Bobby" Rodriguez for organizing the celebration.

Main Street businesses and tech-enabled startups drive economic growth, job creation and add cultural vibrancy to our neighborhoods. Listen to the recent conversation between Compass Executive Director, Bryan Wright, PhD, Hispanic Chamber Cincinnati President, Alfonso Cornejo, and Cincinnati Edition Host, Lucy May, about how immigrant, refugee, and international student communities are driving that growth. #immigrantentrepreneurship #trustedconnector #inclusiveeconomies #immigrants #refugees #internationalstudents #startup #entrepreneurship Shakila Ahmad Felicity Tao Gerardo Calvo Logrono Chukwuma (Chuma) Ekwueme Mahendra Vora Michelle Denisoff ~Jane Muindi Jason Dunn Sr. Shazafar Ahmed Christopher Che Gustavo León
Immigrants are job creators through entrepreneurship and startup activity. Immigrants also crucially grow the labor supply and populations within our region. The reports just keep coming in demonstrating this. Listen to our conversation with Alfonso Cornejo and Lucy May on Cincinnati Edition to learn more about the role of immigrants from Main Street business growth to tech-enabled startups. Locally, we have a very robust entrepreneurial ecosystem from technical assistance and training to events serving as platforms for entrepreneurs, with immigrants playing a key role from Main Street to tech startups. Some highlights from the conversation: - In 2023, immigrants started new businesses at more than double the rate of US-born citizens. - 64% of US unicorn companies (privately-held billion dollar companies) were founded or cofounded by immigrants or the children of immigrants - 80% of US unicorn companies have an immigrant founder or an immigrant in a key leadership role (C-Suite) - Ohio entrepreneurs make up nearly 9% of all entrepreneurs though only representing 5% of the overall state population with an income of $1.4 Billion - Locally, though only representing 6% of the overall population, immigrants make up nearly 9% of the business owners in the region. #entrepreneurship #startup #immigrants #refugees #inclusiveeconomies https://lnkd.in/g-dm9KvE Cincinnati Compass Hispanic Chamber Cincinnati Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber Northern Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce Fairfield Chamber of Commerce (Ohio) City of Cincinnati Dept of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Alloy Development Co. 1819 Innovation Hub Latina Entrepreneur Academy African Professionals Network (APNET) Asianati SCORE Mentors Greater Cincinnati ECDI - Economic and Community Development Institute

We must continue to welcome refugees and asylum seekers. It is the right thing to do and, as this recent study shows, resettlement and support of refugees and asylees is a big boost to the economy. Refugees and asylees had a positive net fiscal impact (revenues over expenditures) totaling $123.8 billion, over the 15-year period studied. The net fiscal benefit to the federal government was estimated at $31.5 billion and approximately $92.3 billion to state and local governments.
