PhD funding opportunity!
Do you have an Architectural Degree and are interested in the sustainable intervention of built heritage at risk? Are you curious about how digital recording technologies can enhance our critical approaches towards it, especially in the context of disasters? Do you have a PhD research proposal in mind?
We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and resourceful PhD student, to contribute to the generation of new knowledge. This exciting opportunity is based within the Architecture, Culture and Tectonics Research Group, Department of Architecture and Built Environment, University of Nottingham. You will experience a great research environment, with several ongoing international research projects and state-of-the-art equipment and software, including 3D laser scanning and photogrammetry.
You will be co-supervised by me and a colleague from our research group, (i.e. Laura Hanks or Jonathan Hale), aligned with your PhD research proposal for the programme of Architecture Design.
Deadline: 11.59 pm on the 16th of February 2025. Late proposals for this funding will not be considered.
Requisites: 1st or a 2:1 in Architecture (or equivalent) and an English qualification of 6.5 in IELTS (no less than 6.0 in each element). Other requirements are listed in the programme description.
What is the funding for: full fees and a monthly stipend for up to 3 years, starting in October 2025, subject to the excellence of the candidate and the proposal. The starting date may be deferred to April 2026 at the latest, if required.

1. A statement of motivation and interest (up to one page).
2. PhD proposal, including literature review, aims, methodology, and potential case studies, clearly indicating the gap of knowledge you aim to research. No more than 1500 words, excluding references and footnotes.
3. CV
4. Portfolio, no more than 20 pages, composed of mainly images and representations, no more than 1000 words in total.
5. One previous publication (only if available, which can be an article or written work you are proud of).

What happens after sending your application:
Potential candidates will be invited for an interview in the week commencing February 17th, 2025 (online). The selected candidate will also need to follow the regular PhD application process at the University of Nottingham. Only if the selected candidate is an international student who would like to apply for funding both fees and stipend, that application must be done before February 21st, 2025, for which the qualifications certificates and IELTS must be ready.
If no candidates match the excellence criteria, a second call will be released in the coming months.
