About us

CIRCAD is a planned industry-university collaborative research center that integrates data science and modeling, risk assessment and decision theory, and economic and policy analysis to develop and promote innovative and actionable strategies, products, and practices that meet the needs of the insurance and finance industries in addressing climate risk. CIRCAD consists of two academic Sites (Duke University and the University of Georgia) and a number of collaborating partner institutions. We have over 25 faculty and senior researchers ready to address the industry needs identified during our current customer discovery process. Our faculty span the fields of engineering, climate science, public policy, decision science, economics, law, statistics, and computing. However, CIRCAD’s competitive advantage arises not only from our disciplinary expertise, but also from our ability to integrate across disciplines to develop innovative and actionable solutions. CIRCAD’s areas of expertise include: -Data Science and Modeling -Nature-Based Solutions -Risk Assessment & Decision Theory -Economic and Policy Analysis By disseminating the knowledge and tools produced by the center to communities, policymakers, businesses, and individuals, CIRCAD will enhance climate decision-making and foster resilience on a national scale. Achieving these goals will include recruiting, mentoring, and developing a diverse, highly-trained, climate-ready workforce.
