About us

Flagstaff, Arizona is located in the southwestern United States at the intersection of Interstate 17 and Interstate 40, and is the largest city in northern Arizona. The city is also the regional center and county seat for Coconino County, the second largest county in the 48 contiguous states. The City of Flagstaff became a town in 1894 and incorporated as a city in 1928. Currently comprising of just over 64 square miles, Flagstaff is nestled at the base of the San Francisco Peaks (the highest mountain range in the state – with Humphreys Peak at 12,633 feet (3,850m) and is surrounded by one of the largest pine forests on earth. Flagstaff drew its name from a very tall pine tree made into a flagpole in 1876 to celebrate our nation’s centennial on July 4, 1876. At nearly 7,000 feet, Flagstaff is also one of the highest elevation cities in the United States, which helps make the city a year-round mecca for visitors.

    The City of Flagstaff is seeking proposals for large-scale, three-dimensional (3D) sculptures for the 2025/26 Multicultural County Park Sculpture Exhibition. 🎨 The exhibition will feature five artworks, existing or newly created, that reflect and make visible aspects of Indigenous and other diverse cultural representation including Black and Latinx art. 🌟 The exhibition will advance essential perspectives and will prompt interaction, conversation and appreciation. Local, regional and national artists, 18 years or older, are eligible.     In honor of National Public Works Week, we'd like to give a shoutout to our Facilities and Fleet teams! 🌟 Our Facilities team keeps over 80 buildings under their watchful eye, which requires tackling a diverse range of tasks! They can go from framing a wall to rewiring electrical circuits—all in a day’s work! Each of the 12 full-time staff members brings a unique skill set, making them true masters in their craft. 🛠️ Fleet Services technicians repair and maintain an impressive array of equipment, including everything from fire engines, police vehicles, snowplows, trash trucks, bull dozers, motor graders and more! 🚚 THANK YOU to our Facilities and Fleet teams for everything you do! 💙 #NPWW

    As a part of National Public Works Week, we'd like to spotlight our Solid Waste and Landfill teams! 🌟 Our Solid Waste team collects and delivers up to 70-100 tons of trash to our landfill per day and 10-20 tons of recycling per day! 🚚 The Landfill team is made up of 6 Operators, 3 Administrative Specialists, 2 Project Managers, 1 Environmental Specialist, 2 Environmental Assistants, 1 Public Works Manager and 1 Solid Waste Section Director, covering 60 plus operating hours over 6 days per week! 🗑️ We would like to express a very much-deserved appreciation to all the employees working in Solid Waste, at the Cinder Lake Landfill, and Hazardous Products Center for their dedicated service to the City of Flagstaff and Coconino County! 🌟 They are truly a dedicated “behind the scenes” team of people. 💙 #NPWW
