This week State of Washington Tourism presented the Destination Stewardship award to Visit Issaquah during the Tourism Industry Awards Ceremony at the annual state conference in Vancouver WA. Visit Issaquah's board president, John Parizek, GM of Hilton Garden Inn & Homewood Suites Issaquah, was present to accept the award. "This award recognizes an individual, business, or nonprofit organization that effectively promotes environmental awareness, institutes regenerative travel, or espouses community values and well-being in the State of Washington." This award demonstrates Issaquah's community's spirit, values, and perseverance towards what is possible when the objectives are shared and prioritized among partners. Issaquah's Destination Stewardship Leadership Organizations include: City of Issaquah Economic Development, Snoqualmie Indian Tribe, Issaquah Arts, Issaquah Alps Trails Club, Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery, Village Theatre, Issaquah History Museums, Friends of Lake Sammamish State Park, and Cougar Mountain Zoo. And championed by Mayor Mary Lou Pauly. Destination stewardship is the top tourism industry topic globally. Issaquah's destination stewardship journey is setting the example for responsible tourism strategic planning statewide.
