Kudos to Aquatics Supervisor Kristen Stansell for getting out and interviewing about our amazing swim lessons that are out there for the community. Today is World Drowning Prevention Day and we wanted to make sure the message got put out there about how important it is to learn to swim, especially in Florida.

School Resource Officer Ashley Pierce was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Florida Association of School Resource Officers at their conference this morning. Officer Pierce does so much for the community, especially for the kids and their families at Lawton Chiles Middle School - Seminole County Public Schools As a department, we are so proud of her and all the work she does. She also has Xander, her Comfort K9 to help kids if they are having a rough day at school. “This is another well-deserved honor for Officer Pierce,” said Police Chief Dale Coleman. “She exemplifies what a School Resource Officer should be and is an incredible representative of the Oviedo Police Department.”

On Monday, July 1, the City Council read the proclamation declaring July as Recreation and Parks Month. Director Paul Belden, Events Manager Sean Fitzgerald and Events Supervisor Terri Martini were at the meeting to represent the amazing City of Oviedo - Recreation & Parks team for the reading. #itstartsintheparks

Our Employee Appreciation Committee makes sure our employees know they are loved! It's hot out there and the City has many employees who work outdoors during the hottest time of day, making sure our sidewalks and roads are repaired, our storm drains are cleared and the trees are trimmed. Our Employee Appreciation Committee decided to do something special for the Public Works Crews who are working. The Party on Wheels went to three locations to deliver cold drinks and popsicles, play some corn hole and enjoy party music for a quick, 15-minute break in the afternoon. These guys deserve it!

We want to give a big congratulations to Sgt. Chris George with the City of Oviedo - Police Department, Engineer Michael Radzak with the Oviedo Fire Department, Lt. Chris Torres with the Seminole County Fire Department and Deputy Anthony Morel with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office for being chosen as First Responders of the Year by the Oviedo Rotary Club.
