Tempe Police will have extra officers on patrol this July 4 holiday. One of those reasons: curb the use of illegal fireworks. Fireworks can cause fires. They also can be stressful for veterans, Autistic people, those with asthma and many pets. Independence Day is one of the busiest days of the year for pet rescues due to panicking pets. The City of Tempe has had several complaints about people illegally using fireworks in our city. In response, the City of Tempe has adopted a zero-tolerance policy for their use. A person violating fireworks ordinances can be subject to a civil penalty of $1,000. The ordinance also allows Tempe to recoup expenses if emergency services are needed in conjunction with the illegal use of fireworks. People can report the use of illegal fireworks by calling 480-350-8311. Fireworks like Roman candles, firecrackers and bottle rockets require a special permit by Tempe Fire Medical Rescue. Just because you might see a firework for sale does not mean it's legal to use in our city. Some small fireworks are permitted, such as sparklers. See what's legal. If you aren't sure if it's legal, don't buy it or use it. If you have questions, please call the Tempe Police non-emergency number at 480-350-8311. https://lnkd.in/gssmnkPq
