  • The City of Thornton Infrastructure Department is receiving the Gold Award for exceptional utility performance from the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA). Brett Henry, Interim City Manager, will receive the award on behalf of Thornton on October 21 during the 2024 Executive Management Conference in Miami, Florida.   "I want to congratulate the award winners for their outstanding commitment to delivering the highest quality, safe drinking water to their communities," said AMWA CEO Tom Dobbins, CAE. "Earning an AMWA award signifies the highest level of excellence in managing and operating water utilities. Their work ensures access to one of life’s essential resources and promotes environmental sustainability."   "I'm proud of our staff's commitment to operational optimization, utility resiliency, and leadership as recognized by this award. Thornton’s water efficiency programs encourage responsible use of available water resources, our implementation of key projects increase customer service while minimizing leaks, and long-term capital plans ensure utility resilience into the future,” Brett Henry said. Thornton is also a leader in the state in addressing the risks of PFAS. Thornton is committed to transparency, keeping the public informed on PFAS levels in drinking water, and the strategy to address the new regulations to demonstrate our unwavering commitment to the community's health and safety. Thornton has one of the lowest residential daily gallons per capita per day consumption rates on the Front Range.
