  • 🎉 CONGRATULATIONS ALERT 🎉 We're proud to announce that Midland Police Department Detective Mark Stefaniak has received the City Strive Employee Recognition Award for Above & Beyond. This award recognizes an individual for distinct and extraordinary accomplishments that have made significant and identifiable successes or improvements for the citizens, especially when responding to citizens’ issues and concerns and during emergencies or other extreme circumstances. Here's what his nominator had to say about Mark: “Detective Stefaniak regularly goes above and beyond to make not only members of MPD better, but also officers from other jurisdictions and new academy recruits. The following list is just a few of the highlights of Det. Stefaniak's great work: Long-time instructor at the Delta Police Academy; VIRTRA [law enforcement training simulator] instructor; developed and rolled out new (state-mandated) active shooter training for MPD and many surrounding agencies; and secured new flooring and set up a new training room so we have the ability to complete hands-on training at the LEC. His diligence allowed us to purchase the flooring for half of what it would normally cost. He is a newly certified Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructor, which puts MPD ahead of the national trend on new hands-on training techniques. He developed and ran additional role-playing scenarios during the field training process for the remediation of one of our new officers. And, if that's not enough: As a direct result of Det. Stefaniak's thorough investigative skills, two of his cases have been taken over by the Attorney General's office for prosecution. We also regularly receive compliments about his level of professionalism when he testifies in court. As you can see, we are lucky to have Det. Stefaniak on our team here at MPD. He makes us better!”” - Chief Nicole Ford Congratulations, Det. Stefaniak, on your receiving this well-deserved award. We're grateful to have you! The City Strive Awards is an employee recognition program developed to encourage and recognize City of Midland employees that strive to exceed residents' expectations, exceed the highest standards of service to the community, and exemplify the City’s culture and values. • 🎉 CONGRATULATIONS ALERT 🎉 We're proud to announce that Parks and Recreation Customer Account Representative Jeremy Long has received the City Strive Employee Recognition Award for Teamwork. This award recognizes an individual for fostering and participating in the collaborative effort of a group to achieve a common goal, solve a problem, or to complete a task in the most effective and efficient way. Here's what his nominator had to say about Jeremy: “When the City announced it was implementing Asana for project management and workflow, Jeremy quickly got to work self-teaching himself on the software, utilizing the many online trainings. He envisioned solutions for (Dial-A-Ride) and created form-based processes to better serve his passengers. I learned of Jeremy's early adoption and mastery of Asana and recruited him to be a leader in the Asana Users Group and Asana Problem Solvers Group. Jeremy has already helped numerous departments get started on Asana and provide expertise in designing creative solutions using Asana. He has personally helped me in creating some City-wide Asana processes that will be rolled out soon to make the whole organization be more efficient. Jeremy is who I consider the "go-to" in the City for Asana knowledge and troubleshooting. Finally, his patience and thoughtful listening make the experience working with him a pleasure.” - Project Manager Ken Arthur Congratulations, Jeremy, on your receiving this well-deserved award. • 🎉CONGRATULATIONS ALERT 🎉 We're proud to announce that Facilities Manager Tyler Abbs has received the City Strive Employee Recognition Award for Above & Beyond. This award recognizes an individual for distinct and extraordinary accomplishments that have made significant and identifiable successes or improvements for the citizens, especially when responding to citizens’ issues and concerns and during emergencies or other extreme circumstances. Here's what his nominator had to say about Tyler: “Tyler is a real treasure for the City of Midland. He has a wealth of knowledge and skills, along with a network of connections, that seem to allow him to figure out solutions to just about anything that is thrown his way. Tyler routinely goes above and beyond to help other departments - he has helped Public Services so many times that I cannot sing enough praise for him! He has taken projects off my plate that would have taken me twice as long to tackle, as I would have needed to research options and likely hire a consultant to achieve the proper result. Some examples of projects include the demolition of Currie Stadium, the installation of electric vehicle chargers and the restoration project at Plymouth Pool. Beyond these larger projects, Tyler handles day-to-day situations that come up with the utmost professionalism and patience." – Director of Public Services Karen Murphy Congratulations, Tyler, on your receiving this well-deserved award. NEW IN STORIES💛 Defining Family & Home with The Voice of the City, Katie Guyer “I’m someone who wears my heart on my sleeve. Transparency and human connection are so important to me, and that’s not something people traditionally associate with government entities. Midland is full of personality, love, and connection; I want to reflect that in our communications. In the past, the City’s messaging had been very straightforward and professional but maybe too formal. I believe that kind of communication doesn’t always foster trust. I live in this community—I go to the same stores, my kid goes to the same schools. Why should we pretend we don’t know each other when we’re all working toward the same goals for ourselves and our community? Relating to people more humanly, especially on social media, drives me.” -Katie Guyer, CPM Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/gqQUexYx and tune in next Wednesday for episode 10 of The Max Loves Midland Show with KG.

  • Government doesn't always have to be serious. Our #AdultRecess program is serious, though... serious fun! Just another outside-the-box placemaking and connection initiative we are proud to support.

I certainly didn't have "Start and run a program featuring giant childhood games and adults with hula hoops" on my career bingo card, but I can't say I mind it. So proud of my little #AdultRecess and its growth since 2018. Come play with me this summer! Connecting with residents and watching them, in turn, connect to their place will always be the most rewarding and driving force in my work. Government can be fun. Actually, it *should* be - and at City of Midland, Michigan, I make sure we do. https://lnkd.in/gDGNvTQf
