"Generous hearts shine brightest! On 28th September 2024, I attended the #GatheringOfGivers at Ndere Cultural Centre, courtesy of UBUNTU LEADERSHIP SAFARI We celebrated remarkable individuals transforming lives through generosity. While at the event, I received a timely gift that inspired me to continue giving my time, treasures, and talent to transform people and society as a whole. This will also transform me, for it is more blessed to give than to receive. Looking forward to continue finding ways to give, to always be the gift that never stops giving. #LawAndPhilanthropy #OmutimaOmugabi #OurGenerousSpirit #GenerousHearts"

I have just concluded my keynote address at the inaugural Afrotellers conference, where I named my presentation “Seeing the Unseen, Telling the Untold.” During my talk, I highlighted the CivSource Africa journey in reshaping the conversation around African philanthropy through storytelling. Whether through our research, giving reports, gatherings of givers, the book of African proverbs on generosity, the comm-UNTY! podcast, or our photo exhibition, we have employed various mediums to narrate the story of African giving, generosity, and philanthropy. Our journey is far from over; there are countless more stories to share and numerous ways to communicate them. I emphasized that sharing the narratives of African generosity is fundamentally a rights issue—it confronts the injustice of rendering African giving invisible and embodies a deeply ideological commitment to believing in Africa and embracing an Afrocentric perspective. What a powerful start to Day 2 of Afrotellers 2024. Jacqueline Asiimwe delivered a powerful address on "Afrikan giving and philanthropy". She gave us a powerful reminder that "Storytelling is a strong connector to our rights and a tool to fight injustice. When we tell our stories, stories of Afrikan generosity, we are resisting the narrative that Afrikans are not givers and enabling ourselves to see ourselves differently - as a generous people" Jacqueline also highlighted that generosity looks different and it's beautiful in its diversity. Stories of philanthropy are not only the big million dollar gifts from foundations but the everyday acts of generosity and kindness we express as Afrikans. These stories matter as much, or perhaps even more, than the mainstream stories of philanthropy. She closed the session with a powerful proverb which captures our collective generosity, "A single bracelet cannot jingle". #Afrotellers2024
