Stairway to the Top: Cary Crushes the Space Needle Challenge! 🏆 Our CEO, Cary Kopczynski, recently competed in the annual Base2Space stair climb and finished 1st out of 37 competitors in his age group with a time of 7 minutes 34 seconds, his second win in a row! 🚀 This was Cary’s sixth B2S competition, having snagged fourth place, third place, two seconds, and now two victories! Base2Space challenges participants to climb 832 steps from the base to the top of Seattle’s iconic Space Needle in support of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The money raised – over $4 million to date -- funds life-saving cancer research and other related programs. As a leader who consistently drives innovation and excellence, Cary continues to set the bar high—both in the boardroom and on the Space Needle stairway. Huge congratulations to everyone who participated, proving once again that Seattle’s spirit of giving is as high as the Space Needle itself. Congratulations, Cary! #LeadershipInAction #Base2Space #CKCStructuralEngineers #Inspiration #CommunitySupport #FredHutch #Seattle

🚨 We’re excited to announce that the shell and core for the Edged Data Center in Atlanta, Georgia is nearly complete! 🚨 Through close collaboration with our partners, CKC achieved a balance between structural efficiency, strength, and durability, while preserving long-term resilience. The outcome is a cost-effective, energy-efficient structure that aligns with the client's vision and is meeting the project schedule. Of special note, the CKC team designed shear walls for this 1200’ x 360’ IT facility to meet extreme loads so that it can remain fully operational during a significant windstorm or earthquake. Our thanks to Edged, MG2 Design, Wallace Design Collective, Planit, and Brasfield & Gorrie, LLC. The Edged Data Center in Atlanta will soon be ready to support the digital landscape with efficient and sustainable solutions! #CKCStructuralEngineering #DataCenter #StructuralEngineering

Creating Constructability: How Teamwork Transforms Design During his recent presidency of the American Concrete Institute (ACI), Cary Kopczynski, our CEO, was instrumental in spearheading the creation of PRO: An ACI Center of Excellence for Advancing Productivity. Construction industry productivity has languished for years, and PRO is laser focused on helping improve it. STRUCTURE magazine recently ran an in-depth article on PRO, coauthored by Cary; Phil Diekemper, PRO’s Executive Director; and Mike Tholen, ACI Managing Director of Engineering. The article highlights the importance of fostering trust and early collaboration between designers and contractors to improve constructability and project outcomes, making this a valuable read for all industry stakeholders. PRO recently published a Constructability Blueprint, an evolving digital resource developed with input from members and industry experts. With updates planned later this year, the CB provides valuable strategies for incorporating constructability into design. 🔩 Maximizing Efficiency & Savings: The Power of High Strength Rebar 🔩 In today's competitive construction landscape, minimizing costs and project schedules without sacrificing quality is essential. High strength rebar is transforming the industry by offering key advantages over conventional 60 ksi rebar. For optimizing both performance and budget, it provides a smart, cost-effective solution. We’re big advocates, and here’s why: 💡 Material Efficiency: High strength rebar, up to 100 ksi yield, means fewer bars are needed to achieve equivalent structural integrity. This reduces overall material quantities, leading to cost savings. 💡 Labor Savings: With fewer bars to handle, installation becomes faster and more efficient. This streamlining of labor can shorten project timelines, sometimes significantly. 💡 Lower Transportation & Handling Costs: The reduced material translates to transportation efficiencies and minimizes handling costs at the job site. 💡 Concrete Optimization: The use of high strength rebar can help optimize concrete quantities. This not only reduces concrete costs but also lowers a structure’s dead load, which can create cascading savings on foundation and seismic elements. 💡 Sustainability and LEED Credits: By reducing material waste and improving the overall sustainability of a project, high strength rebar can contribute to LEED certification for clients who prioritize green building practices. 💡 Versatility in Design: High strength rebar provides engineers with greater flexibility in designing complex and demanding structures, enabling the creation of more innovative and efficient solutions. #CKCStructuralEngineers #HighStrengthRebar #Seattle #StructuralEngineering #Construction #CostSavings #Innovation

A new standard for modern living and sustainability is on the horizon! We recently helped celebrate the groundbreaking for one of our latest projects, Sloane, formerly known as 616 Battery, nestled in the heart of Seattle. Located on the historic site of the former Elephant Car Wash in the Denny Triangle, this 45-story residential tower will offer 442 living units, 2,550 SF of retail space, and thoughtful landscape design that prioritizes pedestrian accessibility. With a completion date in 2026, this milestone represents months of collaboration, planning, and dedication from our incredible team and partners. As construction begins on this contemporary apartment tower, we’re proud to bring our structural engineering expertise to the forefront and help bring the Sloane vision to life. A huge thank you to everyone who has been involved in making this project a reality—from our talented CKC engineers to our valued clients and community partners. We look forward to watching this project come to fruition and will continue delivering engineering excellence every step of the way. Check out CKC Senior Principal, Joe Ferzli, helping with the ceremonial first turn of dirt. #CKCStructuralEngineers #Seattle #SeattleDevelopment #StructuralEngineering #Sloane #DJC #BreakingGround Holland Partner Group Weber Thompson Bruce Harrell

Excited to share details about one of our current projects!   Located in Charleston, South Carolina, the new PG-3 parking garage will soon add parking capacity for more than 6,000 vehicles at the Charleston International Airport. The architect is LS3P ASSOCIATES LTD., and structural engineering is being provided by a joint venture of MMSA and CKC. The project includes a consolidated rental car facility on Levels 1-3, a two-story Customer Service Center on Levels 2-3, an expansion of the existing PG-2 elevator tower and new pedestrian bridge, and relevant roadway improvements.   The massive 6-story, 2.4 million square foot project will be constructed of long span cast-in-place concrete with post-tensioned beams and slabs. Interestingly, Charleston is in a pocket of high seismic risk, so the structural design includes special ductile concrete moment frames to resist seismic forces.     Construction will begin in the fall of this year and will enhance the convenience and efficiency of parking and rental car services at Charleston International Airport. Stay tuned for more updates!     #CharlestonAirport #PG3 #ParkingGarage #LS3P #MMSA #CKC #AviationAuthority #NorthCharleston #SouthCarolina
