Excellence in Advocacy

About us

Children's Law Center of California (CLC) represents children who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned that come under the protection of the Los Angeles, Sacramento, or Placer County Juvenile Dependency Court systems. Children's Law Center was created by the Superior Court in 1990 to serve as appointed counsel for these Los Angeles youth. In July of 2011 we opened our doors in Sacramento County and now serve as appointed counsel for all abused and neglected children in both Los Angeles and Sacramento counties. With a combined staff of nearly 600 lawyers, paralegals, and investigators, CLC represents all of the 25,000 children under the jurisdiction of these dependency courts. CLC attorneys are committed to excellence in child advocacy and appear on behalf of children in day-to-day dependency proceedings. We also provide representation in a host of related hearings that seek to ensure the well being and future success of each child. CLC is often seen at the forefront of much needed local, state and national policy change and system reform.

  • Thank you ABC7 Los Angeles for sharing former CLC client Esmeralda Barajas’ story. The CLC housing team worked tirelessly to help her and her young family secure rental assistance and obtain stable housing. Thanks to CLC’s newly-announced partnership with Mayor Karen Bass Mayor's Fund for Los Angeles and The RightWay Foundation more of our clients will get the housing support they need. The We Are LA Children and Youth program will pair each young person aging out of the system with a trained caseworker who has been in the foster care system themselves to connect them to available resources and to help secure housing for them. Esmeralda, we are so proud of you!

  • CLC is proud to announce our partnership with the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles to provide benefit, employment and housing navigation to the roughly 100 young adults leaving foster care in LA County each month because they are turning 21, with plans to expand the program to serve formerly incarcerated and justice-involved youth. In partnership with CLC and the RightWay Foundation, the We Are LA Children and Youth program will pair each young person aging out of the system with a trained caseworker who has been in the foster care system themselves to connect them to available resources and to help secure housing for them. CLC Firm Director Princess Ramey spoke and stood beside LA Mayor Karen Bass as the announcement was made yesterday. Former CLC client Esmeralda Barajas joined the press conference to share how CLC's housing team helped her and her family find a stable place to live. She wants more youth to have the assistance she received. https://lnkd.in/ge_i65nV

Flashback Friday! If you have 20 minutes to spare today, I encourage you to take a moment and watch the fireside chat CLC hosted last month with the incredible Janay Eustace and Justice Shama Mesiwala. CLC's Northern California Regional Director Brenda Dabney did a beautiful job of leading the discussion. If you are wondering what navigating the child welfare systems feels like from various vantage points, I think you will enjoy this discussion. https://lnkd.in/gAaSd6YR Thanks for watching and for indulging my elder millennial FF Myspace reference! 😂

  • We are so proud of our Regional Center attorney Rosie Frihart! Rosie's testimony last week before the California budget committee was called "brilliant" and "powerful" by many who heard her speak. She spoke passionately about the impact of remote IPP meetings on clients and families who need to access Regional Center services. Rosie's unforgettable testimony is a reminder of CLC's continued commitment to excellence in advocacy.
