Blue Tap, an organization from the United Kingdom is providing water solutions to address challenges in the agriculture and construction sector. Their team has been working in East Africa since 2018, running successful pilot projects. According to statistics, 5.52 billion people out of a population of 7.78 billion in 186 countries face water insecurity today. Of these, 1.34 billion are Africans, accounting for more than 90% of the continent’s population. Such water scarcity lowers the living standards of people. They spend a considerable amount of time in search of water sources instead of employment and education. Children are forced to fetch water from far away leading to their dropout from schools. Water scarcity also leads to disease spread and an unhygienic environment. And this maintains the vicious cycle of poverty. Blue Tap is working with the University of Oxford's REACH program and Kenyan NGO, FundiFix to install water treatment technologies in Kenya. Their DCC chlorinators are solar PV powered and treat water with no chemical additions, including salt, relying instead on ions naturally present in the source water. That means no dependence on consumable materials and minimal operating costs. Water is one of the fundamental requirements for any person and Blue Tap is making sure East African communities get the ample supply for their livelihood.
