Flagging a new blog post by the Wildfire Resilience Funders' Kayla (Drozd) Calkins on seeing the destruction in Los Angeles County and the call for a cyclical approach to planning for wildfire...
Lessons on the significance of community planning before a wildfire are hard-learned each time the destruction reaches a neighborhood. Yet, there is still a gap in cyclical planning for the entire fire lifecycle, including the development of models for community-scale rebuilding. The topic of wildfire resilience in recovery was the foundation for a deep discussion during our last network-wide meeting. The insights and actions from this conversation are the basis for a new blog post (https://lnkd.in/exYpSUDQ) by Wildfire Resilience Funders' own Kayla (Drozd) Calkins. Many thanks to our excellent host, Katie Oran, Climate and Disaster Resilience Manager at Northern California Grantmakers, and our expert panel: Crystal Kolden, Director of the Wildfire Resilience Center at University of California, Merced; Nicole Lambrou, Assistant Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the College of Environmental Design, Cal Poly Pamona; Kristin Marcell, Director of the Climigration Network; and Tiernan Doyle, Strategy Director at Fire Adapted Communities Learning Network.
