🚀 Texas Seed Funding Update: Trends to Watch in 2024 🚀 Texas continues to be a hotbed for innovation, with some exciting shifts in the seed funding landscape! According to recent data, the median deal size in the first three quarters of 2024 nearly doubled, jumping from $587K in 2023 to $1.17M this year—a 100% YoY increase. While the number of deals has dropped (387 in 2024 vs. 581 in 2023), the increased deal sizes show a growing confidence in fewer, high-potential startups. What’s driving this growth? 🌟 AI is leading the way with a 40% increase in total deal value from 2023 to 2024, while SaaS—historically a dominant player—saw a 7.7% decline. This reflects shifting investor priorities, with more attention turning to sectors like AI and Health. 💸 With $636.45M invested in Texas startups through the first three quarters of 2024, the Lone Star State continues to attract significant capital, despite the changing landscape. Fewer deals, bigger checks, and a focus on high-growth industries—it's an exciting time to be part of the Texas startup ecosystem! I am excited to share that we recently closed $10 million in Series A funding for Allstacks. This round was led by Andrew Drylie and Chris James at Quadri Ventures, in partnership with Todd Graham and Chinedu Udeogu at M12, Microsoft's Venture Fund, and Alok Nandan, PhD at First Rays Venture Partners. Sometimes you get lucky and meet people who innately understand the value of your mission from the 1st moment you meet them and working with each of these folks to close this round was a real pleasure. Of course, a big thank you to our existing investors Hyperplane, Companyon Ventures, Clutch VC, S3 Ventures, Atlassian, and to our angel investors for believing in us and supporting us along the way. We founded Allstacks to help engineering organizations of all sizes by providing them with the data they need to make strategic business decisions and fully understand how their investments (time/money) translate into positive business outcomes. In a high-cost-of-capital economy, there is a renewed focus on delivering core business objectives, high productivity, but also a positive developer experience. We're excited to take our learnings from working with a number of fast growing enterprise software companies to some of the largest banks in the world and deliver this value at a broader scale, like speeding up software delivery at Sharefile/Cloud Software Group by 32% I'd be remiss to not mention my partners Darrell "Jeremy" Freeman and Adam Dahlgren and our incredible team without whom Allstacks wouldn't be what it is. https://lnkd.in/en-zZNrR

The latest podcast featuring Rajiv!
Our newest First Funders episode is up! Meet Rajiv Bala, GP of Clutch VC, a pre-seed and seed-stage exclusively investing in Texas. Rajiv is committed and bullish on the region with a hands-on approach to investing, working with founders on product feedback, team building, and more to see initial customer validation before investing. Rajiv also embraces sub $500 million outcomes to drive fund multiples rather than relying on Unicorn outcomes only. This episode pushed Aamir Virani and me to think differently about what we know and practice here in Silicon Valley, reminding us that there is more than one way to achieve Alpha. Highlights from our discussion: - Starting startups, Texas style: Is it about 24/7 work-life or work-life balance? We discussed a Texas vs. Silicon Valley approach to company building. Can it work and drive outsized venture outcomes? - Beyond chasing unicorns: Can you be successful with sub $500M outcomes in VC? We dug into how portfolio construction starts with fund size and what scale of outcomes matters to you. - Does previous founder or operator experience make you a better investor? Rajiv believes it builds founder empathy, skills, and experiences that make you more effective in challenging moments. - Selective incubation as a strategy: Rajiv will sometimes work with a team for 6 to 12 months before investing to gain information asymmetry, build conviction (or incertitude), and establish a genuine relationship ahead of the check. #startups #texas #austin #pre-seed #seed #vc
