We were excited to welcome the Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus Foundation to our office at the Old Post Office! We were fortunate to be able to speak with the state's Latino Caucus members about the importance of investing in a robust transit system, and to facilitate a discussion with community-based organizations about the opportunities that transit can bring their members.

Congratulations to Cassaundra Rouse, Executive Director of the Illinois Tollway, for being selected as the new vice-chair of the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Policy Committee for northeastern Illinois. The committee approved her appointment at its October joint meeting with the CMAP Board. Rouse will provide leadership of this committee and its meetings alongside the chairman, Illinois Department of Transportation Secretary Omer Osman. This Committee plans, develops, and maintains an affordable, safe, and efficient transportation system for the region — or metropolitan planning area. It is the forum through which local decision makers develop regional plans and programs. Pictured (from left): Cassaundra Rouse, Omer Osman, and CMAP Executive Director Erin Aleman.

October is #PedestrianSafetyMonth. Join CMAP and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration NHTSA in urging drivers to slow down and be alert for pedestrians. Pedestrian fatalities have been increasing nationally — and in northeastern Illinois — over the past decade. Most recent data (2022) shows that a pedestrian is killed every 70 minutes and injured every 8 minutes in the U.S. Please do your part to drive safely, share the road, and spread the message!
