Our Bay Area office hosted a happy hour that doubled as a fundraising event for Leap, a non-profit that brings arts education to local elementary schools. One of the engineers working on our new PACCAR Engineering Building is none other than recent Whitworth engineering graduate Ashtyn Petersen ’23! Now a civil engineer for Coffman Engineers in Spokane, Petersen delighted her former professors when she attended the celebration of construction for the building earlier this month as her company’s representative. Petersen is involved in a range of projects at Coffman, from recreational and municipal developments to battery energy storage systems to stormwater management. Petersen shares what it’s been like to work on this project for her alma mater: “I joined the [PACCAR Engineering Building] team in the latter stages of the design process, contributing stormwater drainage and pipe calculations, preparing the drainage report, and refining final details before the project was submitted for permit. Since construction began, I’ve been involved in construction administration and making regular monthly visits to the site. “It’s particularly rewarding to work on a project that feels so personal. I have relationships with the engineering professors who will use this new facility, and they have long needed an upgraded space to support their programs. It’s incredibly fulfilling to have a hand in shaping the future of the next generation of engineers. “I’m thankful to Coffman for providing me with this full-circle opportunity. It has been an enriching experience, and I’m eager to see the PACCAR Engineering Building come to life.”
