About us

The Collective Impact Forum, an initiative of FSG and the Aspen Institute Forum for Community Solutions, supports community-centered solutions to strengthen collaboration, advance equity, and improve lives. The Forum provides resources, hosts learning events, and offers coaching that can help advance collective impact work. Learn more at collectiveimpactforum.org> About the Collective Impact Forum Since the 2011 Stanford Social Innovation Review article introduced the concept, collective impact has grown into a transformative movement. Though collective impact has proven to be a powerful approach in tackling a wide range of issues in communities all over the world, many practitioners lack the resources and connections they need to be successful in this work. The Collective Impact Forum provides them with access to tactical tools, training opportunities, and the shared knowledge of peer networks. The Collective Impact Forum is built in partnership with many others working to accelerate the collective impact movement.

  • *** Looking for an Event and Conference Manager? We have a recommendation! *** If you are organizing a conference, hosting a work retreat, or coordinating a board meeting, we have a recommendation for an event manager. The Collective Impact Forum has worked for years with Christopher Pulido from Details by CP, an independent event and conference management company. From small private meetings to conferences for thousands of attendees (both in-person AND virtual), Christopher and Details by CP always do a fantastic job supporting the event and creating wonderful experiences for both attendees and the hosts. Earlier this month, Christopher shared that he and his family lost their house in the LA fires. They are safe, and they can rebuild, but it will take a long time, and in the interim, he is interested in getting the word out about all the awesome things his company can do to support successful events and conferences. We love working with Christopher, and so much of our success in supporting our workshop attendees has been because of him. If YOU are organizing an event, meeting, or conference, and are looking for a super-skilled and very experienced manager, please reach out to Christopher at christopher@detailsbycp.com. I recently attended a session facilitated by the Collective Impact Forum, where this piece was discussed. It offers a deep and thoughtful reflection on the U.S. election, highlighting the challenges of navigating the current political climate, while also focusing on how collective impact networks can continue to move forward. A key takeaway that stands out for me is Protect, Resist, Build, Bridge. In these uncertain times, this framework is more relevant than ever. It’s about: 🔒 Protecting the most vulnerable in our society, ensuring we’re standing in solidarity with those who may face increased risks. ✊ Resisting policies that harm communities and fighting to preserve the rights 🔨 Building solutions that work 🌉 Bridging divides—engaging across boundaries, listening, and fostering understanding to create lasting, meaningful change.

🖇️ #Leadership of change--particularly in collaboration with a range of partners--is simultaneously necessary and can feel very difficult. I found this recent article by Dominique Samari and Paul Schmitz (as well as the accompany podcast) a helpful reminder of the specific leadership #skills and #mindsets that help drive change and power through the unseen interferences that come up, despite best intentions. The six traits aren't necessarily new or groundbreaking, yet they were very helpful reminders of good leadership generally (especially in this moment) and the combination and interplay of them together is powerful. 1️⃣ Results-based 2️⃣ Equity-focused 3️⃣ Political savvy 4️⃣ Project management 5️⃣ Inclusive culture 6️⃣ Adaptability You can engage with the content in the medium of your choosing: 📰 Read the article: https://lnkd.in/e4BiSsDy 👂 Listen to the podcast: https://lnkd.in/e4Pn-zgP 👀 Watch the webinar: https://lnkd.in/ecuvkHGa Collective Impact Forum #collectiveimpact #collaborative #systemschange #socialimpact

Dominique Samari and I have a new article on leadership for Collective Impact Forum that we are excited to share. The article captures our lessons and thinking about how leading networks and coalitions is different from leading organizations, and what those specific mindsets and skills are. We help illustrate them through interviews with four coalition backbones we admire. Thanks to Dave Celata of Milwaukee Succeeds, Beth Clay from NEW Mental Health Connections, John Jacobs, M.S. and Ryan Lugalia-Hollon, PhD, from UP Partnership and Heather Vaikona from Lift to Rise for sharing your insights and experience. https://lnkd.in/g-6AzdfX

In the discussion, we dive into: 🔹 The specific mindset shifts required in backbone leadership; 🔹 The skill sets that are crucial for effective backbone leadership; 🔹 The importance of building relationships as a vital aspect of backbone leadership (and why it’s necessary that relationship-building be specified as part of the backbone’s work, and not considered an add-on or “on the side”.) 🔹 Advice and insights on how backbone leaders can effectively support collaboratives. • Join us for a free virtual office hour on January 28 from 1pm-2pm ET where we will be answering questions and offering guidance and resources around how to navigate change within collaborative work. https://lnkd.in/ganbMYJc About This Session With shifts in government administrations both in the U.S. and globally, and related sociocultural shifts, many practitioners are navigating uncertainty and apprehension. They are grappling with how to prepare for advancing their collective strategies amidst a landscape that may bring rapid changes across multiple systems at once. For those leading collaborative work, these times of uncertainty can both be very challenging and serve as an opportunity to lead together collectively. If you have questions about how to manage change during uncertain times, we’re here to help where we can. Please Note: These office hours will be live-only with no recording to enable more candid conversations. What’s a Virtual Office Hour? The Virtual Office Hour is another way to respond to the burning questions of collective impact practitioners. The office hours are casual Q&A sessions: no formal presentations, but rather an opportunity to spend the hour answering questions about a specific topic. (Disclaimer: We won’t have answers for every question and situation, but we can share ways of thinking about future planning and lessons we’ve learned from the broader field.)
