Strengthening Colorado's communities.
About us
The Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) is responsible for strengthening Colorado's local communities and building capacity by providing strategic training, research, technical assistance, and funding to localities. Colorado's rich heritage is evident in the communities that extend from the eastern plains to the western slope, from the southeast to the northwest corners of our state. While each region, county and municipality represents a range of interests and characteristics, all of Colorado's communities are constantly changing, adapting and working to address the concerns of citizens.

Commissioner Dan Williams hosted DOLA, and our team got to meet with City of Woodland Park, Colorado Mayor Kellie Case, Victor Mayor Barbara Manning, City of Cripple Creek, CO Mayor Annie Durham and County Commissioners Bob Campbell, Ross Herzog, and Erik Stone. It was important to hear about the most pressing issues facing Teller County, specifically housing and water. One highlight was hanging out with Rita the Troll! Thank you Teller County for having us.

Just over a year ago, Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley broke ground for 16 modular homes in partnership with Fading West Building Systems. Last week, DOLA was able to welcome 16 new homeowners into their new three-bedroom homes after providing $2.3M collectively in grant funding for this project. These individuals helped build their houses and are able to stay in Eagle County (within walking distance to public transit and downtown Eagle) because of the stability these homes provide. DOLA’s Division of Housing Director Alison George (left) pictured here with Natalia Gonzales, a new homeowner! Natalia grew up in TOWN OF EAGLE, graduated from Eagle Valley High School, works at Alpine Bank in Eagle, and is a mom to twin boys. Congratulations to the Gonzales family and the other Eagle families on their new homes!
