Ensuring every primary care doc is equipped to manage patients with OUD by prescribing buprenorphine would be a win. But the reality is that most PCPs are not equipped to provide the level of support needed to help people with OUD find lasting recovery. Anecdotally we've learned that PCPs want to support and are in a great position to help patients with initial engagement in treatment or in supporting stabilized patients over the long-term (typically 1 year or more into starting treatment). This works best when PCPs have a trusted network of behavioral health providers who can manage patients in the interim, ensuring they have access to the resources needed for recovery and are working with providers who are experts in managing OUD + the commonly co-occurring MH conditions. Curious how others think about the role of PCPs and what is actually feasible given the laundry list of expectations placed on these incredibly important providers? https://lnkd.in/eWsWZsdj
