In her role as a delegate in the American Bar Association House of Delegates, Partner Carol A. Starkey recently attended the 2024 Annual Meeting in Chicago. There, the ABA House of Delegates approved as new policy a measure that embraces multiple principles embracing democracy and the rule of law. Always carefully plan the final payment when planning to terminate a Massachusetts employee. Employers who run afoul of the Wage Act and are sued by a discharged employee may be required to pay the terminated employee three times the amount of wages in question plus the employee’s legal fees, even if they pay those wages just a day late.
