Today, we had the pleasure of adding a new and highly distinguished member to our CI Board of Directors. Welcome, Angela Hwang! 👋🏼 Her list of accomplishments and credentials could fill multiple posts but allow us to gush for a minute. Angela serves as Advisor to CEO and is the former Chief Commerical Officer and president of the Global Biopharmaceuticals Business at Pfizer and member of Pfizer’s Executive Leadership Team. 🔬 She was responsible for delivering all 600 of Pfizer’s medicines and vaccines to patients in 185 countries. 💉 Under Angela’s leadership, Pfizer Biopharma generated a peak of $100 billion revenue in 2022. Over the years, she has focused on creating and expanding collaborations with health insurers, governments, policymakers and global health stakeholders around the world to come up with new and better ways to meet health challenges and make medicines accessible and affordable for all. 🌎 In 2020, Angela and Pfizer’s Biopharma team launched the world’s first COVID-19 vaccine and, one year later, the first oral antiviral treatment. Though vaccines often take many years to develop and distribute, Angela and her team—inspired by a relentless focus on helping patients—made the impossible possible. Beyond her work at Pfizer, Angela serves on the board of directors of UPS and is a member of Cornell’s Johnson Graduate School of Management Advisory Council. Angela also served on the board of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations, the U.S. China Business Council and the Pfizer Foundation. Angela is consistently ranked among the world’s top leaders in healthcare and business. Fortune placed her as one of the Most Powerful Women in Business four years in a row and she is a fierce advocate for women’s leadership and sustainable global health equity. 👏🏼 Angela received her bachelor of science in microbiology and biochemistry from the University of Cape Town and her MBA from Cornell. Angela and her husband are proud parents of a teenage daughter and son. We are honored to have Angela on the board and look forward to benefiting from her insights and learnings. 💡 She joins 16 other incredible board members, who have helped to shape and guide Connecticut Innovations. Special thanks to Governor Ned Lamont for this very special appointment to our board of directors.

Governor of the State of Connecticut

Love seeing this now for the second straight year. A tour like this that brings together leaders from the private sector with commissioners from our administration is the kind of collaboration we're encouraging in CT. It's the value of being in a small and mighty state. Let me tell you a little secret — it's working! Together we've been able to help CT government catch up and modernize, support startups, and grow our state's economy. This is the kind of forward thinking strategies we need to build on the progress of the last few years. #MakeItHere #Connecticut

Connecticut Innovations wrapped up our second Tour de Connecticut last week, and everyone keeps asking, which is better- France or CT? I think the below answers the question. After 4 days, riding from Greenwich to UConn Avery Point in New London, visiting with more than 250 people along the way and seeing some magnificent scenery....i gotta say the Tour de CT is just like France, only better. The people, scenery and comaraderie are all inspiring. We met with a few CT startups that are now billion dollar companies, and many others we think are on their way. We hosted several events, including one in New Haven with senior Government officials discussing how we are now taking informed risk by working with some of CI's innovative startups. The panel was led by Secretary Jeffrey Beckham, Chief of Staff Matt Brokman, President Radenka Maric, Comptroller Sean Scanlon, Commissioner Daniel O'Keefe, FlyteHealth founder Katherine Saunders, MD and Commissioner Mosquera-Bruno. It was amazing to hear the discussion amongst these leaders about how CT's Government, led by Governor Ned Lamont, can be nimble and embrace risk taking to move the administration forward to better serve our citizens. Vive La Connecticut!

Matthew McCooe and Alison J. Malloy participated in panel discussions yesterday, hosted by the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce. Alison’s star-studded panel discussed the future of innovation in the Greater New Haven area and was followed by an equally impressive panel with Matt and policy leaders on setting policy that will propel New Haven and Connecticut forward. Special thanks to Garrett Sheehan for having us and to all the panelists who made this event a success. 👏 CI was thrilled to be part of an event that was focused on continuing the growth, innovation and expansion of the home of our headquarters, New Haven. 🏙 Josh Geballe Ranjit Bindra Jason Price Martin Looney Vincent Candelora Justin Elicker David Steuber

It’s hard to believe the 2024 Tour de Connecticut is already a wrap. 🎬 This year’s ride was extra special and we couldn’t have done it without our amazing team, companies, partners, guest riders, behind the scenes crews and more… The fourth and final day started in Madison with our biggest group of guest riders yet! Shoutout to Eric Rosow from Conduce Health and Greg Reilly from University of Connecticut for hitting the road with us. The CI team was also strong in numbers, including new riders Bo Bradstreet, Matt Storeygard, Alison J. Malloy and Jordan Lue. 🚲 We cycled 24 miles from Madison to Old Lyme, stopping by Black Hall Outfitters to refuel and enjoy the beautiful scenery. As you can see, we couldn’t help ourselves from hopping in a kayak and heading downstream for a quick ride. 🛶 Once we were back on land, the group continued for another 20 miles to The Branford House on University of Connecticut-Avery Point’s campus to cross the finish line! 🏁 We were greeted by even more of CI’s team and members of UConn’s Connecticut Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CCEI) for a panel discussion with two of our founders who have both exited CI’s portfolio and graduated from UConn. Our guest rider Greg Reilly, a strategy professor at UConn, opened with remarks before Maxim Budyansky, co-founder of Avitus Orthopaedics and Peyman Z., founder of Logicbroker took the stage. 🎤 Shoutout to Douglas Roth for moderating the discussion about the ups and downs of starting, running and selling a company. We really mean it when we say we couldn’t have asked for a better week. ☀️ This ride always reminds us why Connecticut is such an amazing place to live, work and play. Thanks to all who joined us on the road, at events, or online following along. See you next time! 😉 #TourDeConnecticut 🚲 Matthew McCooe Lauren Carmody Emma Twohill

Yesterday our team crushed day three of the 2024 Tour de Connecticut. 💪🏻 Here’s what we were up to: 🏙️ Started the day in West Hartford’s Blue Back Square with our morning guest rider Laura Dinan Haber from Nassau Re/Imagine. 🏛️ Spent some time enjoying the beautiful views at our State Capitol in Hartford. ⛴️ Loaded our bikes onto the oldest continuously operating ferry and cruised from Rocky Hill to Glastonbury. 🥤 Stopped by to see our friends at Pedals in Durham and refueled with some fresh smoothies and açaí bowls. 🥬 Met up with our second guest rider of the day Jason Corsello from Acadian Ventures for a tour of our portfolio company H2O Farm in Guilford. We even got to sample some of their lettuce products. ⛱️ Continued on to Madison for our annual summer portfolio company networking event. Thank you to everyone who attended and keep up the amazing work! Overall, day three was pretty spectacular. Stay tuned for a recap of our final day and finish line celebration soon. 🏁 #TourDeConnecticut
