To all the working parents out there: we see the dedication, effort, and love you pour into both your career and family. Today, we not only celebrate you but also recognize the challenges you face. Balancing work, family and personal time can feel overwhelming, and it’s okay to admit that doing it all isn’t always realistic. That’s why support systems—like Paid Family Leave, affordable childcare, flexible work schedules and mental health resources—are crucial in helping parents thrive, not just survive. Let's work together and strive for a world where working parents are better supported, so they don’t always have to make impossible choices. Happy National Working Parents Day! 💛 #WorkingParentsDay #SupportParents #SupportMoms #SupportMothers #MotherhoodCommunity #Motherhood #WorkingParent

73% of new mothers think about leaving their company after they return to work from parental leave. What’s more? 36% of new mothers QUIT their jobs within 18 months after they return from a paid parental leave. But here’s the thing - they are not quitting to stay home. In fact - Only 4% of new mothers who quit after parental leave do so to stay at home with their kids. The other 96% are moving to another company (or launching their own!) to keep working. This is a really important finding from our parental leave survey - because it highlights a massive opportunity for companies to better retain new parents - especially mothers. But there’s good news! Our survey found that there are several concrete, tactical things that companies can do to avoid this attrition risk. We’re releasing the full paper with recommendations next week - stay tuned! ********* This data is from Parentaly‘s survey of nearly 3,000 women who took paid parental leave in the past three years. Want to see more of the survey results? The full report goes live in next week, and I'll continue to share key takeaways daily. Follow along (Allison Whalen)!

Our latest national report on maternity care access in the United States reveals a stark reality; where you live matters when it comes to the options available for maternity care. While some progress has been made to increase access to care, such as expanding and extending Medicaid, we continue to witness steady reports of obstetric unit closures and workforce shortages. In fact, 1 in every 25 obstetric units in the US shuttered their doors in the last 2 years, resulting in fewer choices, increased stress, and greater travel times for birthing people. The 2024 Nowhere to Go: Maternity Care Deserts in the US report reveals that over 35% of counties are considered maternity care deserts. This means that in 1,104 US counties, there is not a single birthing facility or obstetric clinician. These counties are home to over 2.3 million women of reproductive age and are the resident county of women who gave birth to over 150,000 babies in 2022.
