  • Did you know the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument spans nearly 400,000 acres in central Montana? Recently, a few of our staff had the opportunity to lead a trip there with some of our amazing donors! Here are some fun facts about the monument: 🏕️ Visitors can canoe or kayak any section of the 149-mile Missouri Wild and Scenic River - the same one Lewis and Clark once navigated. 🐏 The monument is famous for its bighorn sheep - Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks boasts a 100 percent hunter success rate on sheep every year. 📜 The Nez Perce National Historic Trail, which follows the journey of Chiefs Joseph, Looking Glass, Tulhuulhulsuit, and Whitebird in leading the Nez Perce in search of refuge, bisects the monument. 📍The Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument sits on the traditional lands of the Apsáalooke (Crow), Blackfeet, Gros Ventre, Assiniboine, and other Indigenous peoples, who have protected and stewarded this land for centuries.

  • This week marks the third anniversary of President Joe Biden restoring protections to Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments in Utah! This move protected sacred Indigenous lands, crucial wildlife habitats, and helped in the fight against the climate crisis. While President Biden's action was a major victory for conservation, we will continue fighting to keep these protections intact. 📸: Olivier Douliery/AFP via Getty Images

  • The Bureau of Land Management's Resource Management Plan for the Rock Springs District will guide the management and protection of nearly 3.6 million acres of public land in southwestern Wyoming for the next two decades. 🌍 "Overall, the Rock Springs RMP is a smart and detailed-oriented plan that reflects input from the many stakeholder groups in Wyoming. It conserves places where many people fish, hunt, and recreate that are important to growing local economies without impacting...existing oil and gas leases." - Kara Matsumoto, Conservation Lands Foundation Public Lands Policy Director https://ow.ly/t1T750TujLS

  • Public lands are more than just spaces—they're a vital part of our national identity and well-being, providing water, clean air, and recreation access. 🌲🌎 In a recent opinion piece, Bureau of Land Management Director Tracy Stone-Manning reflects on the importance of managing these lands: “Each and every American owns our public lands. They provide so much: wildlife habitat, clean water and energy, food and timber, solace and recreation, and more. Balancing these values is the job of the Bureau of Land Management, for both current and future generations.” https://lnkd.in/ejMwmm66 #ActNowForPublicLands

  • 📢 Breaking news: Today, we filed a motion to defend the Bureau of Land Management's Public Lands Rule in court from a misguided legal attack. With our partners The Wilderness Society and Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, we filed a motion to intervene in a lawsuit filed by the States of North Dakota, Idaho, and Montana. The common sense rule modernizes public land management. Read more: https://ow.ly/HTYl50Trn7g The Public Lands Rule, supported by 90% of public comments, provides the BLM with essential tools to restore habitats and maintain public access to beloved recreation areas. We will be represented by Advocates for the West in court. #ActNowForPublicLands
