Connecting People and Plants in a Place of Exceptional Beauty

About us

The Conservatory of Flowers is a Victorian wood and glass conservatory built in 1879. Our mission to connect people to plants in a place of exceptional beauty. Located in Golden Gate Park, we're open Thursday through Tuesday, from 10am to 4:30pm, for visitors to experience the rare exotic plants and tropical flowers of our jungle in an up close, intimate setting. Our renowned Jungle Tours introduce third through fifth grade students to the unique adaptation strategies plants develop to survive in tropical environments. Typically booking fully each summer when spaces are released, the Conservatory invites teachers to plan their own self-guided tours, offering a singular opportunity to bring their lessons to life. Evening lectures and workshops offer adults the opportunity to learn more, and after hours social programming provides the opportunity for visitors to experience the beauty of the collection and the building after dark, while connecting with each other while enjoying live entertainment and featured local brewers and vintners. The Conservatory of Flowers also provides a signature setting for weddings and private events.

  • Have you ever eaten lotus root? Our first lotus blossom of the season is showing in the Aquatic Plants Gallery! 🌺 Lotus plants grow in the water and have holes in the roots and rhizome to allow air to reach the underwater parts of the plant. All plant cells need oxygen, so aquatic plants typically have spongy roots with channels that air can flow through. We expect there to be more lotus blossoms throughout the next few weeks. 🌷 ⏰ Bonus Bloom Alert🌷 ⏰ Another Giant water lily bud has emerged from the water (as well as a new, spiky leaf)! We expect this Victoria x Longwood bud to bloom in the next 4-5 days! In the span of 48 hours after blooming, it will go from white to pink, transitioning from a female to male flower overnight! The Conservatory is incredibly lush, fragrant, and colorful at this time of year. Come visit soon!

  • Our first Giant water lily bud of the season started to bloom yesterday at the Conservatory of Flowers with a difficult to capture white, female flower. Today, the flower is pink, male, and is slowly unfurling. If this plant was growing in it's natural habitat, pollen covered insects would soon be set free to pollinate other plants. 🐞 The bloom is larger than all the other water lilies in the Aquatic Plants Gallery and it's sweet fragrance fills the gallery. Visit early tomorrow morning for the best look at the first Victoria x Longwood bloom of the season! Learn more at gggp.org
