Honors Civil Engineering Undergraduate at Oregon State University

I am excited to share that I just finished an amazing internship at CONSOR Engineers as a part of the MECOP, Inc. program! 🙌 Over the past six months, I assisted engineers in the Portland Consor office with 13 different transportation and structural assessment projects. From roadways to roundabouts to prestressed concrete slab bridge load ratings, I enjoyed learning so many valuable skills in communication, time management, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and referencing ODOT standards. This experience challenged me to grow both professionally and personally in ways that I never could have done in the classroom. I recently began my Fall term at OSU, and I am already noticing how much clearer the connections are between the theory I am learning and its real-world applications. This has made me even more excited for my final year of university! I am incredibly grateful to CONSOR Engineers and MECOP, Inc. for making this internship possible. I want to give a special thank you to Riley Wiggins, PE for being a fantastic mentor and support to me throughout my internship. I would also like to thank those who had an especially big impact on me during my time at Consor: Rachel Fast, PE, Stuart Garth, Andrew Giesy, P.E., Billy Adams III, P.E., Erin McConville, Carl Hughes, Dace Morgan, Karen Tatman, David Covey, PE, M.ASCE, George Palmiter, Jacob Stellers, Katie Waldroop, Nicholas Hannan, Eric Webster, Jeff Olson, Chandler Gering, Ajay Heitzmann, Sarah Ferguson, Omar Khalafalla, Ph.D., P.E., Kellie Hernandez, Bob Maechler, Letha Buchanan, and CJ Kraber. Here is also a shoutout to Alyssa Wasouf, William Howie, Celine Yutzie, and Myat Su Shin for being a super fun cohort to intern with. Let's hope that Intern Island can make a comeback someday! 🏝 This internship has made me feel even more excited about entering the civil engineering field after graduation. I look forward to returning to Consor during Winter break to keep learning from all the amazing engineers that I look up to! #ConsorIntern #MECOP

Catch Nick Clark, P.E., and Spencer Olson, PE in action as they give a behind-the-scenes look at their inspection of two truss bridges in Benton County, Oregon. From ladders and waders to kayaks to industrial rope access, our #structuralassessment team employs a variety of methods to reach even the most hidden bridge elements. Our team supports the Oregon Department of Transportation under the local agency bridge inspection contract, performing National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) for nearly 100 local-agency-owned bridges across four counties in Western Oregon. This effort includes routine, initial, and hands-on fracture-critical inspections. They also perform specialized tasks like inspecting fatigue-prone steel details and timber boring (find out more here: https://lnkd.in/ghz9fYFq). These inspections are vital to monitoring bridge conditions and maintaining safe, secure connectors that keep our communities moving. #bridgeinspection #dayinthelife #ConsorProjects #bridgepreservation

On May 15, a barge impacted the bridge that connects Pelican Island with Galveston, Texas, spilling oil into the waterway. Responders quickly got to work removing the barge, recovering 22,000 gallons of oily water, and implementing tactics to protect wildlife (https://lnkd.in/gTRawQk6). Within 6.5 hours of receiving the call from the Texas Department of Transportation, our team was authorized to perform an emergency underwater damage inspection. On May 18, the morning after the barge removal was completed, our #inspection team was on site and ready to assist TxDOT in assessing the structural integrity of the bridge. First, our team performed acoustic imaging of the pile bents and surrounding channel bottom to identify the debris field. Then our dive inspectors got in the water to perform a visual and tactile inspection of the piles supporting the roadway. By that same evening, TxDOT reopened the bridge to load-restricted traffic, restoring a crucial connection to Pelican Island, which is home to Texas A&M Galveston, Seawolf Park, and the Galveston Naval Museum. Construction on a new bridge will begin in the summer of 2025—the Pelican Island Causeway Bridge had been slated for replacement before the crash. Shout-out to the many people who quickly took action to keep community members safe! #consorprojects #bridgeinspection #emergencyresponse #commercialdiving

Our teammates recently joined community members in celebrating the grand opening of the San Bruno Recreation and Aquatic Center (RAC)—a 49,360-square-foot facility featuring indoor and outdoor pools, a gymnasium, a walking track, fitness rooms, and community halls. Designed to bring people together and promote wellness for all ages, RAC welcomed over 1,000 people for the ribbon-cutting celebration! Consor is proud to have provided project management services for the City of San Bruno, overseeing quality, safety, and delivery through every step of construction. Under Rodrigo Macaraeg’s leadership, our team served as the primary point of contact for the City, Group 4 Architecture (designer), Ninyo & Moore (geotechnical), Griffin Structures (construction manager), and Lathrop Construction Associates (contractor) to keep everyone informed of progress and coordinate issue resolution. Largely funded by $51.5M in restitution from a 2010 PG&E pipeline explosion, RAC is not just a place for recreation but represents community resilience. Recreation centers like this are vital third places—public spaces where people can connect with community outside of their workplace and home. Shout out to everyone who helped make this vision a reality! 🌟 #projectmanagement #PMCM #consorprojects

    Principal Engineer at Consor Engineers

Last week, I teamed up with 13 of my CONSOR Engineers colleagues for a group volunteer event with AdoptOneBlock. We spent a couple hours in the afternoon cleaning up the beautiful #Portland, Oregon, waterfront between the Morrison and Steel Bridges, collecting litter and enjoying some time outside.   Volunteering is an important way to give back to my community and amazing city. I am grateful that Consor offers paid time for us to participate in these efforts. It’s a win-win—building community while making an immediate, positive impact!   #iworkforconsor #consorimpact #volunteering

This #constructionappreciationweek, we’re recognizing the hard work of the construction professionals who build and shape our communities and everything in between. High-quality construction is the foundation of resilient infrastructure that keeps our roads safe, our water clean, and our communities thriving. Our team of inspectors, construction managers, and engineers are proud to collaborate with contractors to see that every project is completed with safety, precision, and the highest quality standards. “At Consor, we often work behind the scenes to make construction projects run smoothly. Whether we’re out in the field or managing from the office, it’s not always glamorous, but the impact is real. Everyone involved in building infrastructure faces challenges like working in extreme conditions and solving complex issues, but knowing we’ve made a difference makes it all worth it. I get excited to tell my kids about intersections and roads I worked on during our morning commute!” — Eric Fuller, Colorado Construction Services Group Manager “Construction is an act of creation. Turning a concept or a plan into something real, tangible, and lasting—in spite of every challenge from weather to supply chains—is a unique art form that requires determination, problem solving, and creative thinking on a constant basis. The people who do it thrive on it and take pride in it, and they deserve our appreciation and every effort to protect them while they do it.” — Ken Thomas, Director of Safety Thank you to all the construction teams making a difference in our communities! #construction #constructionmanagement #constructionservices
