Transforming access to mental healthcare | Therapy referral management software

About us

Consult List is an innovative therapy referral tool designed for therapists, behavioral health organizations, and anyone guiding people to therapy. This unique platform revolutionizes the way individuals connect to mental health care by integrating self-directed therapy requests with professional-to-professional referrals. Therapy seekers input their needs and preferences, and therapists review this information to determine a fit. If suitable, therapists offer a consultation, ensuring a tailored match. No more dead ends from unreturned phone calls, rejections based on lack of availability, or wasted consultations. Therapists use the Consult List to manage referrals, either to recommend specialists for current clients or to handle client inquiries when their practice is full. This helps them maintain an optimal workload without sacrificing the quality of care. This feature is also advantageous for therapists looking to expand their practice, as it allows them to directly offer their services to those in need. This ensures that clients receive appropriate care at the right time. For behavioral health organizations, Consult List streamlines the referral process, enhancing collaboration within the mental health community and improving service delivery. This functionality allows them to extend their reach and impact, providing a seamless care experience for both therapists and clients. Additionally, Consult List is a great resource for referrers such as school counselors, emergency room staff, and primary care providers. It facilitates their ability to connect patients with the appropriate mental health resources quickly and effectively.

Here’s a thought: Imagine if we applied the Golden Rule - treating others as we would want to be treated - to mental health referrals. Many individuals seeking help are met with barriers, confusion, and frustration. If we were in their shoes, wouldn't we want a clear, accessible, and welcoming pathway to care? Instead of leaving individuals to navigate the complex referral process on their own, what if we provided them with a supportive, intuitive, and efficient system? A system that respects their time, their needs, and their right to privacy and quality mental health care. As professionals in the mental health field, we have a responsibility to make this a reality. We have the knowledge, the tools, and the collective power to transform the referral process! Check out Consult List to learn more about our mission driven work. #MentalHealth #GoldenRule #EmpathyInHealthcare

Therapists, let's talk about waitlists: when are they helpful, and when do they do more harm than good? 🤔 Waitlists can be a double-edged sword. They make sense in specific scenarios, like when you're offering a therapy program with a set number of sessions, or when you are certain of a discharge date, like when a current client is relocating to a state where you're not licensed. In these cases, you can predict an opening in your schedule. However, the end of a client's therapy journey is often unpredictable. Here's a rule of thumb: avoid giving a timeframe for waitlists unless you're certain of an opening. Offering a vague 'soon' can create false hope, potentially stopping someone from seeking the help they need now. Remember, therapy is about providing timely support. And by the time that someone makes a call to seek support, they have usually been sitting on that decision for months, if not years, so if they are finally making that call, chances are, they aren't in a great place and need help sooner, rather than later. In cases where waitlists might seem like an option, consider also offering them viable referrals. This way, individuals get immediate options, not just a spot on a list. It's about being realistic and compassionate in your practice. Just so you know – waitlists are best used sparingly. They should support your practice, not constrain the therapeutic options for those seeking help.  Always prioritize immediate care and alternatives, ensuring everyone gets the support they deserve when they need it. Need help finding or managing your referral lists in an effective and efficient way? Consult List can help. #TherapyPractice #ClientCare #MentalHealthAwareness

"No one has space, we don't know who to refer to" - Health Systems 😕 "It seems impossible to network and get my name out there" - Therapists 😖 In the fascinating world of healthcare, a paradox exists. Primary care physicians, discharge teams, and school counselors are constantly in search of suitable referrals for their patients. Yet, therapists, vital for mental health wellbeing, struggle to make their services known unless they belong to a large practice. If our sole duty, as healthcare providers, is to actually take care of the patients we see, why is there this disconnect in a system that should be seamlessly interwoven for the benefit of patient care? There is a perception that creating systems for referrals is time-consuming, complicated, and fraught with bureaucratic red tape. But it doesn't have to be that way (cough, cough, check out Consult List) We need to encourage health systems and practice administration to invest in better mental health referral systems. We have to venture upstream and craft improved care navigation systems. It's time for an INCLUSIVE approach, one that breaks down silos, and prioritizes quality care, health equity, and patient-centered care over corporate interest. Let's connect the dots between medical settings and therapists. The stakes are too high, and the need is too great. Let's promote better mental health, together. #referrals #mentalhealth #innovationinhealthcare

If initial consultations are so crucial for building a thriving private practice, why isn’t there more guidance out there for doing them well? We’ve got some thoughts on how to up your consultation game. It's wonderful to establish rapport and share how you can help, but realities are sometimes treated as negotiable, when, very often, they are not. A person supporting a family on a $35,000 salary can't "cut back" on spending enough to afford $175 in weekly sessions, and if someone works in customer service from 9-5 with a thirty minute lunch break, daytime-only appointment availability isn't going to work. Clarifying these realities initially is not transactional, it's compassionate. And offering viable referrals through Consult List when it's not a fit is crucial as an ambassador to the field of mental health, working to improve access to care through better navigation. When thinking about consultations, consider the "deal-breakers" for clients first. The last thing you want is to raise hopes with what seems like a perfect referral, only to hit a roadblock with financial or scheduling issues. Diving into these "deal-breakers": 💸 Financial Realities: It's essential to discuss whether clients can afford your rates or if insurance is needed. Addressing this upfront prevents future disappointment and ensures therapy remains a source of support, not financial stress. 📅 Scheduling Sync: Can the client attend sessions during your available times? It's about more than filling slots in your calendar; it's ensuring the client can realistically commit to therapy without disrupting their life. 🔎 Identifying Therapy Goals: Understanding the client's primary therapy focus is key. It’s not just about expertise; it's about ensuring your approach aligns with their needs for a fruitful therapy experience. And let's not forget about personal preferences: 🌈 Individual Attributes: Sometimes, a client's preference for a therapist with specific experiences, cultural competence, or approaches can make all the difference. This is about creating a therapy space where they feel truly seen and understood. ⚖ Finding the Balance: While it's important to cater to specific needs, remaining flexible is essential. Too narrow a focus might limit options, but understanding their unique needs leads to more effective therapy. Initial consultations are the stepping stones to successful therapy relationships. They're not just about covering basics; they’re about building a foundation of trust and understanding, ensuring both therapist and client are on the same page from the start. #ConsultList #Consultations #Therapy
