Therapists, let's talk about waitlists: when are they helpful, and when do they do more harm than good? 🤔 Waitlists can be a double-edged sword. They make sense in specific scenarios, like when you're offering a therapy program with a set number of sessions, or when you are certain of a discharge date, like when a current client is relocating to a state where you're not licensed. In these cases, you can predict an opening in your schedule. However, the end of a client's therapy journey is often unpredictable. Here's a rule of thumb: avoid giving a timeframe for waitlists unless you're certain of an opening. Offering a vague 'soon' can create false hope, potentially stopping someone from seeking the help they need now. Remember, therapy is about providing timely support. And by the time that someone makes a call to seek support, they have usually been sitting on that decision for months, if not years, so if they are finally making that call, chances are, they aren't in a great place and need help sooner, rather than later. In cases where waitlists might seem like an option, consider also offering them viable referrals. This way, individuals get immediate options, not just a spot on a list. It's about being realistic and compassionate in your practice. Just so you know – waitlists are best used sparingly. They should support your practice, not constrain the therapeutic options for those seeking help. Always prioritize immediate care and alternatives, ensuring everyone gets the support they deserve when they need it. Need help finding or managing your referral lists in an effective and efficient way? Consult List can help. #TherapyPractice #ClientCare #MentalHealthAwareness

I did a little crowdsourcing for our therapist confessions! Please enjoy these collaborative therapist confessions! This week’s therapist confession idea comes from: @katiefru over on IG 💵 Most therapists do not like talking about money. We don’t go into this field for the cash (though there’s nothing wrong with making a good living), we go into it because we want to help people. And we go into it because of our own trauma histories, but that’s a post for another time. 💵 Our healthcare system is a fee-for-service system. It’s structured this way so we only get paid when we are seeing clients (same with doctors, chiropractors, dentists…) Even though we do a great deal of work outside of our session times. That system makes sense in some ways, but it also makes it challenging to count on a certain level of income if we’re left to such an unpredictable system. Again, not that it’s all about money, but we’ve got bills to pay same as our clients. 💵 What many of us wish for is a more sustainable system of healthcare that prioritizes access to care AND compensates healthcare providers equitably. But that’s not what we have, so we’re back to late cancel/no show fees. 💵 Aside from money, there are also clinical reasons we charge these fees even though we hate it. What happens in therapy often mirrors what happens in real life. So let’s say a client is working on being more accountable to people in their lives, but keeps flaking on therapy sessions. Charging a late cancellation fee is a tool for accountability that specifically relates to why the client is there in the first place. It’s not always quite this black and white, but it’s one example. 💵 Therapists: Tell me about your late cancel/no show policy and how you feel when you enforce it. 💵 Clients: How does it feel to learn a little bit more about our thoughts regarding late cancel/no show fees? 💵 #therapistsoflinkedin #therapistconfession #confessions #confession #therapysession #therapist #therapy #therapistsconnect

Training Therapists to Achieve Excellence in Practice | Founder & Clinical Director @integrativepsych.co | Trauma Therapist Educator | Join our JAN Trauma Training Cohort ⬇️ | Book Launch Feb 2025 ✨
Therapists, we're not focused on temporary healing. No, we're here to provide lasting relief. And it takes more than being a good listener or administering different techniques to get there. Therapy is an individual process unique to each and every one of our clients. What works for one client might not work for the other. As therapists, it's our job to understand the right balance of approaches, techniques, and assessments to bring our clients to that long-term healing. Do you agree? Let me know in the comments! Esther Goldstein LCSW 🛋️ Need help with personalizing your clinical skills to client care? 💬 Dm me about our joining a consultation group for skilled therapists. "Therapy Should be Free" Therapy is often deemed expensive and inaccessible, but the reality is, there's much more to it than just talking. As a therapist, each client requires a minimum of 2 hours of work, including preparation, session time, and documentation. Rather than advocating for entirely free therapy, I believe the focus should be on accessibility. How can we make it easier for everyone to access quality mental health care? One solution lies in better coverage from government and insurance providers, extending beyond the typical 5 to 8 session limit. While making therapy free sounds appealing, it's not sustainable. Therapists deserve fair compensation for their expertise and time. However, to bridge the gap, I'm offering discounted rates for initial consultations and Malaysian students at Laurent Bleu Medical Clinic. Spread the word, because everyone deserves access to the support they need. Reach out if you or someone you know could benefit. Salam Jumaat!"

The best therapeutic bonds are built on trust When patients feel a genuine connection with their therapist, the healing journey becomes a collaborative effort. Therapists actively listen and empathise to create an environment where patients feel valued and understood. Paving the way for open communication. How do they do this? Taking the time to truly hear a clients' concerns. Understanding the emotional and physical challenges clients face. Honest discussions about treatment options, possible outcomes, and any uncertainties. Collaboratively involving patients in decision-making. When trust is established, patients are more likely to do the work and open up. Every individual's well-being is built on a foundation of trust. Together, let's foster health, trust, and healing. #trust #therapy #healing

In the realm of home health therapy, compassion becomes a powerful catalyst for fostering not only emotional well-being but also expediting the recovery process for our patients. A compassionate touch, a kind word, or simply a genuine understanding can create an environment of trust and support, crucial elements for a faster and more holistic recovery. Taking the time to listen, acknowledging the challenges, and demonstrating empathy during therapy sessions are acts that go beyond clinical procedures. They become integral components of the healing journey, leaving a lasting impact on the overall well-being of our patients. By infusing our care with compassion, we contribute to a sense of security and optimism, motivating patients to actively engage in their recovery. A compassionate approach recognizes the individuality of each patient, tailoring our care to their unique needs and circumstances. It's not just about treating symptoms; it's about acknowledging the person behind the condition. Share your stories of compassionate care!
