Happy #NationalHispanicHeritage Month! This year, we are shining a spotlight on the incredible work of prolific tile artist Alfonso Pardiñas. Born in Mexico in the 1920s, he eventually made his way to San Francisco and became an integral part of the vibrant bohemian art scene in the Bay Area during the ‘50s-’70s. He maintained ties in Mexico, serving as a large-jobs broker for a mosaic company there and eventually opening his own office in Mexico City as well as Los Angeles, and San Francisco. You may be wondering what art has to do with transit – we're here to tell you. If you’ve ever passed through BART’s El Cerrito Plaza, El Cerrito del Norte, or Lafayette stations you’ve seen the stunning mosaics gracing the walls – likely without realizing they are masterpieces by Alfonso Pardiñas. His artistry extends beyond #ContraCostaCounty and his other works can be found at stations in Oakland, Union City, and San Francisco. Next time you’re on BART, take a look around and snap a photo!

The California Office of Traffic Safety and Caltrans have launched the "Better Slow Than Sorry" statewide initiative to combat the dangers of speeding. With 32% of traffic deaths in California caused by speeding and over 1,400 fatalities in 2022, this campaign is a crucial step in promoting a culture of safe driving. Join us in supporting this mission to save lives. Making it to your destination a few minutes late is better than not making it to your destination at all.
