Today, we celebrate another year since Provident Hospital reopened as part of Cook County Health. Provident Hospital has a historic legacy as the first African American owned-and operated hospital in the nation. Opening in 1891, the hospital proudly served as a provider of care to all residents, and as a groundbreaking training ground for future African American physicians and nurses. Provident Hospital closed in 1987, but local community leaders and Cook County officials saw the need to preserve access to care on Chicago’s South Side. Cook County acquired the treasured community hospital and made significant investments in its facilities and services. On August 17, 1993, Provident Hospital reopened as part of the Cook County Bureau of Health. Learn more about the evolution of Provident Hospital at the link https://lnkd.in/g2UPYx-y

This week, Nursing hosted CCH’s first burn skills fair at Stroger Hospital to ensure that our nurses stay ready to care for burn patients of all ages. Attendees from the burn, trauma, and pediatric intensive care units participated in 8 stations that focused on non-accidental trauma and pediatric burn prevention, mechanical wound debridement, shower therapy, and reviewed endotracheal tube ties for patients with several facial burns/inhalation injuries. The informative content for the 2-day fair was planned by our certified Advanced Burn Life Support nurses.
