Celebrating 40 years of IFRRO! 🎉 4️⃣ 0️⃣ 👏 Since its inception in 1984, IFRRO has been instrumental in raising awareness about the necessity of effective Reproduction Rights Organisations (RROs) and supporting collaborative efforts among authors, publishers, and other rightsholders to develop global rights management systems. Over these four decades, IFRRO has played a crucial role in assisting the management of reproduction and other rights for text and image works, fostering collaboration among over 150 members from more than 85 countries. This anniversary marks a celebration of not just longevity, but also the federation's enduring impact on the creative industry. https://lnkd.in/g5v6rfRk

In a 2024 McKinsey study, 65% of respondents said that their organizations are routinely using generative artificial intelligence (AI) in at least one business function. Clearly, AI is poised to have a significant impact on industries around the globe, offering unprecedented opportunities to enhance efficiency, productivity, and innovation. Corporations can leverage AI to streamline operations, improve decision-making, accelerate research and discovery, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. AI is also changing the way that users interact with content, adding a new layer of complexity to copyright compliance. In the same 2024 McKinsey study, more than half the respondents listed intellectual property infringement as a risk to an organization’s generative AI use. The only risk that ranked higher was inaccuracy of the outputs. At Copyright Clearance Center (CCC), we hear from organizations of all sizes that employees are not always aware of what permissions are needed to use content, and how to obtain them if needed. CCC has supported content users for decades by providing efficient, harmonized licensing solutions that cover their internal uses of content. The Annual Copyright License (ACL) from CCC now includes a harmonized set of rights for the internal-only use of lawfully acquired content with AI systems. The potential applications of AI are vast and varied. Our most recent Velocity of Content blog post by Beth Johnson takes a look at how different departments can put the new internal-only use AI rights in the ACL to work. https://lnkd.in/ebYAAfPJ

Patrice Skelley from the NEJM Group is providing insight for this medical communications question: "I work in medical information, where we summarize data into medical response documents or “medical information letters” when responding to unsolicited inquiries from healthcare professionals. When summarizing publications for the development of these documents, we sometimes use figures and tables from the publication. If lifting the figure or graph, we know to seek copyright permission first. Is it the same for tables?"
