This November, we observe Native American & American Indian Heritage Month—a time to celebrate the vibrant cultures, histories, and enduring contributions of Indigenous communities. It’s also a moment to reflect on the challenges these communities have faced, including the lasting impacts of colonization and displacement. By learning from the past, we can honor Indigenous resilience and support efforts toward healing, recognition, and justice today.

Join The National Center for the Preservation of Democracy at the Japanese American National Museum on Friday, October 25 from 9 AM - 12 PM for important discussion on Democracy and A.I. In an era where AI is transforming everything from how we communicate to how we vote, this program brings together Dave Lesher, cofounder of CalMatters; Ted Schilowitz, a noted futurist; and artist and co-founder of For Freedoms, Michelle Woo for a conversation about the intersection of democracy and AI. The panel will dive into burning questions, examine whether governments should take legislative action to monitor the technology’s growth; what do journalists, writers, and artists need to know to protect their rights; and ask the big question: How will this revolution shape the future of democracy? Following the panel will be an interactive breakout session for further discussion about AI and what we might want to see in an AI Bill of Rights. The program is presented in partnership with CalMatters and Stratiscope and through the generous support of The California Wellness Foundation and First Entertainment Credit Union.
