Had the honor of meeting these 2 young ladies at Indiana Economic Development Corporation suite tonight. They are the founders of Cotton Candy University and are making and selling cotton candy to save for college. Great job ladies.

Are you making or selling women’s PPE? Please read on … ❓Are you choosing words that don’t relate to safety to sell those products? 👗It’s not a fashion show. 🤔 When choosing words please avoid anything aesthetics related. 🤯 It really p*sses women off. 🎀 It reinforces stereotypes of vanity and continues to normalise objectification. 🪞It says women are more concerned with how they look than their own safety (which is BS by the way), that paints us as moronic and “lesser”. 🚩 To us, it states the seller/ brand/ business is backwards and doesn’t view women as equals. 👀 I’ve seen more than a few comms and catalogues using this type of language, it really does undo all that brilliant work PPE designers have done. 💰 The money put into development is wasted when the end user is patronised, the brand is tarnished. 👗 It’s not a fashion show (that’s twice for impact) Quotes from real life Bold as Brass women: 👩🏻🔧”I couldn’t give a shite about flattering, I want enough room for my bum without the crotch being at my knees, don’t have a bricklayers ass, and can climb a ladder” 👷🏼♀️”I do not want curvy and accentuating I want fits properly, doesn’t cut my vag in half, or have legs and arms too long so I get caught on shit” 👎🏻 So if you’re using aesthetic language around safety equipment or messaging that has vanity undertones it really does say a lot of how you view women’s place in our heavy industries and society as a whole. ❎ I’ll give you a few words to remove when talking about women’s PPE: Flattering Accentuating Curvaceous Stylish Sexy Attractive Body hugging Elegant Silhouette ✅ Replace with the following: Fits Functional Safe ❗️Keep the sexualisation of women’s bodies out of personal protective equipment. ➡️ If you need support with this, contact me katherine@bold-as-brass.com So ends this public service announcement. #BoldAsBrass #PPERevolution #DirtyLanguage #ItsNotAFashionShow
