Thank you to Houston Business and Tax Law Journal for helping us host an amazing panel giving a peek into the life of a transactional associate! A special thanks to our own David Fuss and HBTLJ's Deborah Billy Gillis-Harry and Mona Deo, CPA for the opportunity to speak with students and collaborate with Tripp Hise and Alyssa Allen this week.
On October 16th, the Houston Business and Tax Law Journal (HBTLJ) hosted a Lunch and Learn sponsored by Crady Jewett McCulley & Houren LLP. This panel event was titled “A Day in the Life of a Transactional Associate” where the panelists discussed what transactional law is, their experience as transactional associates (both at law firms and in-house), and provided helpful tips for new associates. Thank you to our panelists: David Fuss, Tripp Hise and Alyssa Allen. We had a great time at this event and our students were grateful for the opportunity to learn from HBTLJ alumni. Next up, we have the UHLC: Porter Hedges “Picking Your Practice Group” on November 4th. More details will be provided in the upcoming weeks.

As a first gen lawyer, it’s always exciting to help guide law students as they begin to chart their course into the legal profession! Special thanks to everyone on the Houston Business and Tax Law Journal Team that helped make this event possible!

THE IMPENDING TCJA SUNSET AND WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU Most individual and estate tax changes made by the TCJA will expire at the end of 2025, reverting to pre-2017 tax law in 2026 unless Congress takes action. For example, the current $13.61million estate tax exemption is set to drop by roughly half, creating a narrow window of opportunity for high-net-worth individuals. Estate planning takes time to implement. At Crady Jewett McCulley & Houren LLP , we’re advising our clients to act sooner rather than later. This will give clients the most time to implement any plans they determine fit their desires and needs. Waiting until too close to the sunset could make those changes more difficult to accomplish. We suggest that anyone who has questions about the impact of the TCJA, its sunset, and its impact on their estate plan may want to revisit their plan with an attorney. These discussions may also affect those individuals and couples who fall below the current exemption. Be proactive and if you have questions, speak with your estate planning team sooner rather than later. #EstatePlanning #TaxPlanning #TCJA #WealthManagement
