Happy 𝙲𝚁𝙰𝙵𝚃 𝙼𝙰𝙻𝚃 𝙼𝙾𝙽𝚃𝙷, y'all! 🌾 Today kicks off our industry-wide, month-long celebration of the small grains supply chain that produces your favorite craft beer and spirits. At the heart of it all is 𝙲𝚁𝙰𝙵𝚃 𝙼𝙰𝙻𝚃 made by 𝙲𝚁𝙰𝙵𝚃 𝙼𝙰𝙻𝚃𝚂𝚃𝙴𝚁𝚂. 𝙲𝚁𝙰𝙵𝚃 𝙼𝙰𝙻𝚃 is a grassroots movement dedicated to small-batch maltsters who source their grain from local farms. 𝙲𝚁𝙰𝙵𝚃 𝙼𝙰𝙻𝚃𝚂𝚃𝙴𝚁𝚂 are bringing to malt what craft brewers brought to beer decades ago. With a focus on quality over quantity, and regional over multinational, they are pushing the boundaries of what this key ingredient can bring to the beverages we love. About us
Formed in 2013 by eight craft malthouses, the Craft Maltsters Guild emphasizes quality and craftsmanship as a requirement for success. We believe that maltsters have the ability to influence positive changes and improvements in the malting industry through knowledge and communication. The Guild's mission is to promote and sustain the tradition of craft malting in North America, provide services and resources to the Association’s members, and uphold the highest quality and safety standards for Craft Maltsters. We define Craft Malt as follows: 1. Small: A Member Malthouse produces between 5 metric tons (5.5 US tons) to 10,000 metric tons (11,000 US tons) per year. 2. Local: Over 50% of grains are grown within a 500-mile radius of the Member Malthouse. 3. Independent: Each Member Malthouse must be independently owned by a 76% majority of ownership.

When we changed Craft Malt Week to #CraftMaltMonth, Copperworks Distilling was the first of our members to get onboard. They crafted an American Single Malt Whiskey annually to celebrate craft malt and the Craft Maltsters Guild, and 2024 was no exception to this tradition. Now they have an entire month to talk about Single Cask No. 145. This whiskey was made from a barley varietal called Alba grown in Burlington, Washington. It was malted at Skagit Valley Malting before it closed, and then brewed, fermented, and distilled, and matured at Copperworks in Seattle. The whiskey matured for over eight years in a used bourbon cask before they bottled it at cask strength for Craft Malt Month 2024. Crystallized apricot in the glass, begins with aromas of sweet orange, leather, cigar wrapper, and apple. On the palate, there's considerable mouthfeel, accompanied by flavors of orange blossom honey, dried apricot, candied orange slices, and bittersweet amaro. The amaro note carries through the finish, joined by more leather, dried apricot, apple, and a touch of molasses. Copperworks is generously donating $10 for every bottle sold to us- the Craft Maltsters Guild- in support of our mission to promote and sustain the tradition of craft malting in North America. More details in the link in our bio. Thank you and cheers to Copperworks Distilling! https://lnkd.in/gG_RpmEG

This grain-to-glass education goes on at Printshop all year long! Knoxville's only Craft Malt Certified™ craft brewery is the regular host of craft malt-centric tours and tastings. Be like Printshop and add your educational events to craftmaltmonth.com! We also post member events year-round to our calendar on craftmalting.com.

If you're serving a #CraftMaltMonth collaboration fundraiser beer, or hosting tours or tastings or educational events to celebrate craft malt this month— be sure to submit it to craftmaltmonth.com so we can help you get the word out. Thanks to Outsider Brewing who hosted a live Dark Lager brew day yesterday with Epiphany Craft Malt and Riverbend Malt House yesterday! Give them a follow for tapping details. Outsider is Craft Malt Certified™! Their one-barrel brewhouse is made from glass so that anyone who comes to the brewery can experience a brew day, and see the malt up close! Outsider regularly hosts collaborations, educational events, and other activities that revolve around what’s brewing that day. Next time you're in Asheville, check out what's brewing at Outsider!

🚜Farming isn't for the faint of heart and reward is never without risk when Mother Nature is involved. As farmers, we try to prepare ourselves for catastrophic weather events like this, but the impact of losing a season's worth of crops is deeply unsettling and represents not only a financial setback but a profound emotional blow. 🌾September is #CraftMaltMonth and we're hoping to shine a spotlight on farmers who are confronting numerous challenges, both within our food system and in the local and regional grain economies they help sustain. 💪We're also celebrating the GREATNESS of craft malt, showcasing its positive impact on the brewing & distilling industries and the broader food industry. 🙏For the month of September, Olander Farms and Root Shoot are together hosting a fundraiser where $1 from each T-shirt purchased will be donated to the Craft Maltsters Guild. Read more about our fundraiser below (and check out the sweet designs by MTN Creative) 👇 ⚠️📢Our fundraiser is NOW LIVE here: https://lnkd.in/d8BeE3sB 💚Although these photos taken by @em.sierra are devastating, they serve as a reminder of the resilience of farmers and the potential for new growth and renewal. 🍻So grab a beer (preferably brewed with Root Shoot!), grab yourself some swag, snap a photo, tag us, and help us promote craft malthouses and farmers globally this month! #Cheers to #craftmalt!
