Meet Artavazd Yeghiazaryan, a screenwriter and writer known for his engaging storytelling. He began his creative journey as a journalist and has been serving as the editor-in-chief of the beloved YEREVAN magazine. He is the author of the successful young adult fantasy novel, The Secret of The Dragon Stone, and has published several short story collections. Artavazd also excels as a screenwriter, working on the script for the critically acclaimed drama Gate to Heaven (2019) and the short film Lumen Naturae (2024). Currently, he is writing the sequel to his fantasy novel. At the Villa Empain in Brussels, Artavazd will focus on adapting The Secret of The Dragon Stone into an animated film. He develop the script and animated characters for the project to create a compelling narrative that resonates with a global audience. We’re thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of Artbox Incubator program. Over the course of the 8-week program, 20 innovative projects were developed, with 10 receiving a total of €100,000 to transform their concepts into thriving businesses. The 10 grant recipients are: 🟥 ArtInsight - An online platform curating a diverse collection of contemporary artworks. 🟥 Crop Up - A podcast studio and digital platform that helps creators release and distribute podcasts in Armenia. 🟥 Daobab - Production and sales of luxury accessories from gold, silver, and genuine leather. 🟥 DrumStar Corporation - A compact and multi-height electronic drum innovation for learning, practicing, performing, and recording. 🟥 Fotokombinat N17 - Alternative photography studio reviving the artistry of historical photography in Armenia. 🟥 Hay ink - Armenian art turned into wearable fashion pieces and featured on an online marketplace. 🟥 IMAGERY №3 - Creative fashion and styling room, providing a 360° approach to fashion narrative, experience, and style development. 🟥 Line: Armenian Architecture Biennial - A nomadic architectural biennial navigating Armenia's public spaces and advocating for transformation. 🟥 SHRJAN - A digital platform with hands-on creative kits that helps children connect with their Armenian heritage.  🟥 Studio Kerani - Ceramic studio focusing on high-end dishware production that modernize Armenian ornaments. Introducing our next East-West Resident, Ani Asatryan. An imaginative writer, she crafts narratives that transcend borders and resonate with audiences worldwide. She began her literary journey with a conceptual absurdist book of short stories and essays. Since then, her creative work has been featured in such reputable publications as Words Without Borders (WWB) and The Paris Review and won several prestigious national and international awards. Ani also played a pivotal role in the EU Creative Europe project, “Visual Stories from Armenia, Georgia, and Ukraine.” Currently, she is in the prepublication phase of a graphic novel project and her debut novel “E.” Ani is now at the Villa Empain - Fondation Boghossian, finalizing “Er,” a diary-based novel, revolving around three girlfriends who decide to change their names, setting off a chain of internal and external transformations. Meet Khoren Matevosyan, a visual artist with a distinct style, whose works capture attention and imagination. As a co-founder of the visual arts collective “Kupikazu,” he has organized a number of exhibitions and worked with some of Armenia’s most recognizable brands. Currently, he is working on a project illustrating Armenian fairy tales and is organizing his first solo exhibition. Having tried his hand at a variety of media, at the Villa Empain - Fondation Boghossian Khoren will dedicate his creative resources to combining two of his longstanding obsessions—pixels and traditional dragon carpets. During the residency, he will create carpet patterns that redefine the traditional art form to create images that have never been seen before.
