Last month, we convened the inaugural High-Tech CHI event to celebrate #CSEdWeek with our incredible co-hosts at the Chicago Dept. of Family & Support Services and Discovery Partners Institute. A huge thank you to our Presenting Sponsors, Google, who hosted us at their incredible Chicago offices, and Jessica Holberg, who was indeed a champion of this program. This event was an ode to CS education, and we are thrilled to be able to share a bit of it with you now 🎬 We hope to see you there this December 🎉

Thrilled that the Computer Science for Every Learner (CSEL) team is able to submit a thought-provoking session to SXSW EDU this year and hope that you will consider voting for their panel: Preparing English Learners for Success in the Future of Work This panel will explore how educators can tap into the innate skills of English Learners (ELs) to position them for success in a global workforce. As language learners, ELs possess great resiliency, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. These skills are developed within diverse cultural contexts providing ELs with a multicultural lens to understand their experiences. As the hard and soft skills required of professionals evolve to meet the needs of a technologically advanced society, ELs are well-positioned to utilize these skills to contribute to increased innovation. This session will convene thought leaders committed to investing in high-quality, equitable education for all learners, with a focus on expanding access to resources for EL students: - Silvia Vanessa Rogel, Director of Strategic Partnerships, Illinois Resource Center - Eva Giglio, Executive Director, CME Group Foundation - Willy Orozco, President, CSTA Miami - Heather Cunningham, Ed.D, Director of Organizational Learning, BootUp Professional Development Vote now ➡

Discovery Partners Institute is extremely grateful to Charity Freeman at CS for Success and Computer Science Teachers Association for meeting with students in Digital Scholars today! Joining virtually, Charity delivered a highly engaging talk that not only covered her career and educational journey but also imparted invaluable wisdom to the students: Do not be afraid to say yes - however, also understand your priorities and don't hesitate to decline when necessary. And don’t forget to say thank you!   Srikriti, a rising senior, felt empowered by Charity's words, sharing how they “made me feel assured that I can plan my own future, set my own limits and not let anyone else influence my decisions.” She also appreciated how Charity effectively drew parallels between her experiences and those of the students. Osmond, an incoming college freshman, found her refreshing honesty very inspiring and valued how she seemed always ready for the new day. He noted how Charity is “always learning”, showcasing her drive and intelligence.   A million thanks to Charity for her inspiring presentation, equipping the scholars with practical insights for their future endeavors, and for her extremely valuable support of DPI!   #DiscoverDPI #CareerInsights #StudentSuccess
