Fourth-year DDS students at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine gain invaluable experience during their rotations in the Advanced Clinical Training and Service (ACTS) program. With a team of 70+ dental preceptors at more than 30 clinical sites, the ACTS program allows students to treat multiple patients each day in under-resourced communities across the state of Colorado. Pictured here, students Natalie Wickline and Michael Randell work with preceptors Hoa Tran, DMD, and Manisha Makhija, DDS, and staff at the Project Worthmore dental clinic, which serves a diverse population of refugees and immigrants in Aurora, Colorado. #DentalSchool #DentalStudent #FutureDentist #DentalExperience #CommunityDentistry #PublicHealthDentistry #AuroraCO #ACTS #DentalRotations

CU Dental student and COMBAT Scholar Andrew Fawcett is part of the CU Center for COMBAT Research team who recently published a study from the American Journal of Emergency Medicine which explores the effectiveness of low-dose ketamine (LDK) as a safe and effective treatment for acute pain. You can find details of the study and key findings at the link below.
Our team published a new study from the American Journal of Emergency Medicine which explores the effectiveness of low-dose #ketamine (LDK) as a safe and effective treatment for acute pain. The research highlights that LDK can serve as an alternative to opioids or be used alongside them to reduce opioid exposure due to its opioid-sparing effect. With multiple administration routes—intramuscular, intravenous, and intranasal—LDK is a promising option for both prehospital and emergency department settings. ---+--- This study was led by COMBAT Senior Scholar, Robert Fuller, under the mentorship of LTC Steven Schauer & Michael D. April. COMBAT Scholars Evan Kikla, Andrew Fawcett, and COMBAT Fellow John Hesling also contributed to this work. We are proud of the entire COMBAT Center team that contributed to this innovative work in #PainManagement. ---+--- Kathleen Flarity + Sean Keenan + Vikhyat Bebarta ---+--- https://lnkd.in/eaHJaw7B

“By nature there are constant stressors in ‘doctor school’ while we hold ourselves to the highest of standards to perform and learn at an exceptional level,” said Madi O'Callaghan, student at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. Michael Lampe, Ed.D., program director of digital education and academic technology, said, “Students were calling for more support related to well-being and mental health.” So he helped implement a guided mindfulness experience using virtual reality (VR) headsets to support the mental health of the CU Dental community.
