Did you know there’s a hidden conductor in your brain? The choroid plexus, a tiny structure within the brain, not only produces cerebrospinal fluid but also orchestrates an immune response when the brain faces infection. Backed by CureAlz funding, Dr. Maria Lehtinen discovered that this coral-reef-like structure guides immune cells in a precise, symphonic process. #Choroidplexus #Neuroimmune #Alzheimersresearch Learn more: https://ow.ly/geBf50UPTmj

📢 Thrilled to share our latest findings on cognitive resilience in Alzheimer's disease (AD), now available as a preprint on bioRxiv! 👀 📜 Check it out: https://lnkd.in/dK63PDAT 🧠✨In this study, we explore the molecular and cellular mechanisms that allow certain individuals to maintain cognitive function despite extensive Alzheimer’s pathology. We describe the role of excitatory & inhibitory neurons & protective pathways in AD resilience and resistance. 🧠✨ Highlights include: 🧠 Identification of resilient neuronal populations, including ATP8B1+ and MEF2C+ excitatory neurons 💡 Insights into neurotrophin & protein-folding pathways driving AD resilience 💊 A framework to translate natural protective mechanisms into therapeutic strategies for AD We’d love to hear your thoughts and engage with the community! 💬 Let’s drive Alzheimer’s research forward together. This was an exciting collaboration as part of the CIRCUITS consortium supported by Cure Alzheimer's Fund. 🙏 I got to collaborate with giants in the field such as Drs. Rudolph Tanzi, Manolis Kellis, and Li-Huei Tsai, to name a few. 🤩 Thank you to everyone at the consortium for such an enriching experience & to every single co-author in our manuscript, particularly Dmitry Prokopenko & Carles Boix, for their patience and constant input as I processed the data. 😃 A huge thank you to my mentor Winston Hide, my co-first author Pourya Naderi, and our team member Larisa M. Soto, for the many engaging discussions over the last few years and our collective effort to share our thoughts, hypotheses, and findings with the world. ⭐ In addition to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, this study was possible due to the support of the National Institute on Aging (NIA), the Alzheimer's Association® (which supports my fellowship), and our home institution, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. #endAlz #Alzheimer #CognitiveResilience #Neuroscience #preprint

What if the brain's protective barriers are not as impenetrable as we thought—and that’s actually a benefit? Newly discovered ACE points act as tiny gateways, allowing waste to drain from the brain while immune cells stand guard.
