I recently had the opportunity to attend the Danish Digitalization, Data Science, and AI - D3A conference in Nyborg, where I presented my poster on “Automatic Detection of Cerebral Microbleeds: A Clinically Robust Deep Learning Framework.” This project, conducted at CEREBRIU as part of my MSc thesis in Data Science at IT-Universitetet i København, sits at the intersection of Medical Image Analysis and Deep Learning. We developed a 3D segmentation model that accurately detects cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) on both GRE T2* and SWI MRI sequences, while remaining robust to clinical data variability. CMBs are crucial diagnostic and prognostic imaging biomarkers linked to over 30 medical conditions. However, their manual detection is time-consuming and prone to error, making AI-driven automation a vital advancement. 👉 Project report: https://lnkd.in/d726MzaR 👉 GitHub repository: https://lnkd.in/dXwG8b2j #AI #DeepLearning #MedicalImaging #MRI #CerebralMicrobleeds #DataScience #Cerebriu #D3AConference

From October 22 - 23, I had the amazing opportunity to attend the Danish Digitalization, Data Science, and AI - D3A 2.0 conference at Nyborg Strand. What a fantastic gathering of minds coming together to explore the latest frontiers and challenges in the field! I was able to take part in some truly exciting workshops, like: 🧪 Clinical Predictive Modeling: Closing the Gap between Data Science and Clinical Research Where Professor Gary Collins, Director of the Centre for Statistics in Medicine at the University of Oxford, and Paula Dhiman, Senior Researcher in Medical Statistics (also Oxford) focused on the latest practices in developing, evaluating, and reporting clinical prediction models. 🧠 From Brain Circuits to the Edge AI using Active Inference Tools Where Chris Mathys (Aarhus University), Dr. Carmelo Bellardita (University of Copenhagen), and Assoc. Prof. Melih Kandemir (University of Southern Denmark) walked us through how Machine Learning and edge AI are coming together with Neuroscience to better understand movement. During the two days, I also had the opportunity to meet a bunch of incredible people—special shoutout to Csilla Duray for her brilliant poster on Social Data Science for Urban Green Transition. So many interesting conversations and just the right community I was looking for to fuel my passion for research! I even had the privilege of sitting front-row for inspiring talks from professors and pioneers such as Alfred Spector and Cecilia Mascolo. Already looking forward to D3A 3.0 next year!😎 Huge thanks to all the participants, the speakers, and the organizers Pioneer Centre for AI, DDSA - Danish Data Science Academy, and DIREC - Digital Research Centre Denmark, for putting it all together and making it such a great space for learning and connection. #D3A #DataScience #Digitalization #ArtificialIntelligence #NLP #ML

𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐈 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒! 🎉 About a month ago, as team 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐫, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞—myself, Björn Thor Stefánsson, and Oliver Sanchez—we tackled three tough challenges: traffic light optimization, cell classification on an imbalanced dataset, and CT image reconstruction. After a week of high screen time, caffeine-fueled sessions, and minimal sleep, we developed solid solutions, securing 𝟑𝐫𝐝 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞, earning a 𝟓,𝟎𝟎𝟎 𝐃𝐊𝐊 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐳𝐞 plus an invitation to the Danish Digitalization, Data Science, and AI - D3A 𝟐.𝟎 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞! 🙌 Each challenge in the competition pushed us to explore advanced methods and refine our approach to AI problem-solving. We experimented with models we hadn’t used before—like Vision Transformers and conditional GANs—and gained valuable insights along the way. For example, classification models on extracted features outperformed image-based networks for the cell classification of fluorescence microscope images, while UNet architectures minimized the mean absolute error (MAE) loss better than generative models for CT reconstructions (though with slightly less realistic results). Deploying our models on a virtual machine with a 10-second response time was also an important learning experience in real-time model deployment and optimization. 📡 With just three of us on the team and all of us still bachelor’s students, this was a true test of what we could achieve in AI, and we couldn’t be prouder of the outcome! 🥉 A huge thanks to the organizers, Ambolt AI, DDSA - Danish Data Science Academy, and Pioneer Centre for AI, for hosting such a fantastic learning experience. The competition was both intense and fun—the active memes channel kept us laughing through the challenging moments! We loved connecting with other teams and sharing approaches, and hope to have the chance to compete again in the future! 🚀 Competitions like this are fantastic, and I’d love to see more of these events in 𝐈𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 🇮🇸, where AI and creativity can combine to tackle real-world challenges.
