For the first time, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption will begin implementing Wendy’s Wonderful Kids in Puerto Rico. Through this signature program, the Foundation supports the work of 549 adoption recruiters across the United States and Canada who serve children most at risk of aging out of foster care. This includes children over the age of 9, teenagers, children with special needs and siblings. “Expanding the Foundation’s footprint in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is a significant step toward advancing our mission to dramatically increase the number of adoptions of children waiting in North America’s foster care systems,” said Rita Soronen, President & CEO of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. “We look forward to working side-by-side with our partners to advocate for the voice of every child served by Wendy’s Wonderful Kids in Puerto Rico. “We were ready to start a family, and the thought that there were kids out there who needed us as much as we needed them was a huge motivating factor,” recalled Jonathan. “Adopting our boys was the best thing we have ever done.” Jonathan and his husband, Ruan, started out as their children’s foster parents in a foster-to-adopt program when they were newborns. Deneen and David adopted their daughter and son using Fifth Third Bank’s adoption reimbursement benefit and parental bonding leave. They are thankful for the support that Fifth Third Bank gave their family. “I want to give others who might be in a similar situation hope that you can grow your family.
